This place with splendid natural surroundings, fresh cool breeze coming from paddy fields is an ideal place to relax when you go to visit the sacred city. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Its a wonderful and homely place situated very close to the sacred city.

We've just spent four nights here and had a wonderful time. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough to help us. The food was excellent and plentiful. The setting is very peaceful and very close to the old sacred city sites. Our room overlooked a beautiful drogoba which was floodlit at night. Puzzled by previous negative reviews. Perhaps some people expect 5* service and standards for 1* prices. cannot recommend this gem of a hotel strongly enough.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the drogoba.

We stayed here on the last weekend in a Deluxe room in the new wing. The room was very clean. The staff was very friendly & helpful. Good service. The food was excellent. The Hotel is situated in a superb location closer to the ancient city surrounded by paddy fields & greenery. It has a beautifully landscaped garden. Loved the little swimming pool too. Good value for money.

We stayed here for thee nights. Location was ok, near the ancient city. Room was poor, not clean and a lot of noise from renovation work. There were no other guests, so why not giving your guests the best rooms you have? Food is poor, having dinner almost impossible caused by all the insects. Staff speaks almost no english, except from the managers (who also weren't looking after their guests at all). Swimmingpool is nice, but no worth the price ($37/night). Hotel needs a huge renovation and a new staff to meet any of the western standards (like all the nice family runned guesthouses we had during our 4 week trip in Sri Lanka).

The only reason to stay here is the location and swimmingpool compared to the rates of other hotels with a pool.

As the owner of nilkethavilla hotel we apologies if you have had a bad experience. As you have suggested our hotel is been renovated, the work is almost complete now. As for your request for best rooms ( our suites) are given $45--50 per night. For $37 we give a standard room(comes with air conditioning and en-suite toilet). It is not our policy to change rooms once it is booked. Rooms are cleaned before guest are checked in. We have 2 chefs working in our restaurant. our restaurant is open to the environment around the hotel. Our hotel is surrounded with trees and blue green paddy fields with busing life(birds, insects) . We like our guest be close to nature as Echo hotel. We will investigate into our managers and other staff behavior. If you any queries please write to jgjdr@sltnet.lk

After one week of rain in Kandy we finally arrived in a hotel with sunshine.
We would like to call it the blue, green, orange and white hotel.
Blue because of the color of the sky and the lovely swimming pool.
Green because the hotel was in the middle of a green environment.
Orange because the people where as warm as the color of the sunshine.
The people were very friendly and helpful.
White because it was pure Sri Lanka style.
We have had a very good time.

I stayed here over the Buddhist New Year period and I was delighted with the place. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the food at both breakfast and dinnertime was spot on. I enjoyed the little swimming pool out back - even when a tropical downpour happened. Like the song said, I was "swimming in the rain"!

My room had a delightful balcony that looked over rice paddies towards the ancient city. The aircon and ceiling fan were both in good working order and the bathroom was quite clean and functional. The manager went out of his way to make sure I had a rented bicycle to tour the ancient city on the first day of their new year. He also allowed me to access the internet via the office computer.

The first night I saw in the new year with the all male staff - trying arrack - the local spirit - for the first time. As I say I was made to feel very welcome. Sometimes you need to order food half an hour or more in advance as everything is freshly cooked. It would have been nice if they'd replenished the bottles of "Lion" beer in the fridge!

If you like soulless corporate hotels, don't go there but if you want a taste of the real Sri Lanka and you're on a moderate budget then give it a try. It's out in the countryside north of Anuradhapura new town. Delightful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the west side of the hotel - looking towards the ancient city.

We visited there in January 2013 and the first appearance is not so good. But during our visit, we understood that it was a nice place. The pool is good and clean. The staff is friendly. Food is fine. The beads are clean and comfy. It's a good place to visit if you are looking for good accommodation for a reasonable price.
There is not much difference between the normal rooms and deluxe rooms. Only the TV and the space is the added value. So normal rooms are good and economical.
