“Helpful staff, clean rooms”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

The room was clean, and bed had a mosquito net, the bathroom was also clean with hot shower. Wifi worked well. I'm not sure if we missed something but apart from the ancient buildings there didn't seem to be a lot to do in Anduradhapura, and very limited selection of places to eat, leaving only the local guest houses. We did eat a local curry here but the kitchen facilities did not look the cleanest we saw in our time in Sri Lanka.

Really nice place to make second stop of trip. Our room was clean, enough big and that is important with mosquito net. Staff were nice, polite. With clear conscience I can recommend this place for the stop of traveling around the Sri Lanka.

As the name says it the building looks pretty colonial with a small garden and few tables outside. Inside you'll find very friendly and attentive staff and clean, cozy rooms. Breakfast is nothing special (toast, eggs and juice from the bottle), we didn't order any other meals. But another place with the same owner serves really good devilled beef, so it's a safe bet the kitchen here is also decent. These is important as there is nowhere to eat in the city. Complete desert (well, actually there are a few eateries but food is below average).
All in all that' a very good place to stay in Anuradhapura.

This is one of the best places that I stayed at while in Sri Lanka! I am pleased that I found it.

My room was great! Big and comfortable bed, cosy atmosphere, big windows looking out back, air conditioning and very clean bathroom. The entire room was spotless and charming! There was also free Wifi...one of the better-working ones I found during my time in SL.

The building itself is quite charming, too. And I loved the restaurant area. I ate dinner there and the chef was amazing! I had the best vegetarian curry imaginable...enough to feed two people, not just little old me! The breakfast was typical to what you will receive in most places while in SL (two eggs, cooked to order, coffee or tea, and heaps of toast!).

The location is also convenient, as it is central, right next to the public library. And, nearby to the sights.

What made this hotel special to me were the local staff members (the kitchen and cleaning staff and the chef). They were simply lovely...full of sincere smiles, interest in talking and helping. I will never forget their good natures. The slightly older gentleman at the front desk was also very helpful.

I highly recommend this hotel as a reliable and charming place to stay!

This place was lovely. The people very friendly and the food was excellent. The garden has a lovely peaceful atmosphere and it's down a small side street which makes it nice and quiet. It had airconditioning and nice comfortable rooms for a very good price.

Unfortunately though, we had the room right at the front of the house and on out second night there we were kept awake by people sitting out in the courtyard and talking loudly.

Room Tip: Unfortunately though, we had the room right at the front of the house and on out second night there...

When we arrived in Anuradhapura we went to the French Garden Guesthouse only to find it full. However, the owners have built another guesthouse called London Palace, he organised a free tuk tuk to take us there. The guesthouse is brand new and just lovely. It is quiet and the young man who is in charge, Tamasha, is just wonderful. His English and knowledge is fabulous and he was so helpful. He organised bikes for us to visit the ruins and spent a lot of time making sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent and the beer cold. Would stay here any time.
