I've been eating Tim and company's food since I got to Korea way back in 2010 and they've never really let me down. The food is continually improving as are the drink selections. The real treasure, however, is the service and the sense of community the restaurant offers. The First Alleyway isn't just a restaurant, but a home away from home for the foreign crowd in Gwangju. You can't go wrong with the pizzas or the beers. There are lots of board games available along with darts. If you're in the area and looking for some of the best foreign food outside of Seoul with quality service, come to The First Alleyway.

Great place to hang out with friends, eat some great foreign food, from Hamburgers to pizza's and poutine! It also has a bunch of board games available to play. Love spending my Sundays there with friends, eating good food, playing games and chilling. Love this place!

The service from the owner, Tim, is like your neighbour, or local pub. Super friendly and casual. Diverse crowd, with games readily available to play, dart boards, video games and a big screen TV. By far the most varied selections of beer in the city and comfort food on menu is always delicious.
The servers speak Korean and English (and sometimes others, depending who's working), and the service is friendly. The restaurant has become a regular hangout for expats and locals alike, who are looking for a slice of home. Try the poutine and the pizza- many varieties and honestly, the best I've had in Korea. Too bad you have to leave Seoul to find it.

One of the only places that serves proper breakfast/brunch food instead of "all-day" food in Gwangju, The First Alleyway is a great place to come alone or with friends to have some French toast, pancakes, Moons Over My Hammy, or even non-brunch food later in the day. The prices are okay, but the atmosphere is nice and homey, especially if you like being around foreigners. Good location in downtown Gwangju, too. Recommended!
