I spent one night at a Junior Duplex Suite here. The room was amazing! Very spacious, very elegant, it was like a 5 star boutique hotel. I highly recommend it, if the price is right. Make sure you get a room in the new building, not the old one.

Room Tip: New building only!

I like that it's kind of secluded and it has some charm to it, even though I agree with some previous reviewers that it is in a need of renovation although I believe it had one a few years back but it was probably not properly done.

Food is average, pool is cool, beach is only adequate so if the beach is important to you this is not the place to be if you like sandy beach wtih shallow waters. Staff on the other hand was really very friendly and helpful, from the cleaning ladies to receptionists etc.

There are some really good restaurants 1min away so I would recommend to only take breafast at the hotel.

I like the area a lot, so will probably return again even though it's not worth the price.

Even hotel's major concentration is on gambling and Casino we did have excellent 10 days holiday. Hotel is positioned in a charming fishing village of Przno with it's own private beach. We have changed our hotel dinner (half board) to lunch and have enjoyed fresh sea food dinners in perfectly located Konoba More (restaurant) about 50 m from the hotel. Major advantage is that Przno is very quiet place with no loud music so you can really enjoy sunsets on your balcony and have pleasant dinner at hotel's restaurant or near bay Konobas. It is one of the last unspoiled "oases" on the Montenegro coast. It is visible that some rooms and corridors needs renovations but the rest of the hotel is in presentable state. Food and service is excellent in most areas especially in main restaurant and on the beach where you are greeted by the beach boys making your umbrella and chairs and spoiled by unparalleled service of waiters on the beach (ask for Mladjo). Service could be improved in beach restaurant and especially at reception desk. It looks like some of the reception stuff should understand that smile and pleasant manners are part of the job. Some of them behave disdainfully and bit overwhelmed with it's own importance. We did not have any problems with reception stuff but have noted luck of hospitality. Cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms and public areas is on very high level. Swimming pools and spa are very good and well maintained. Nice private beach, fantastic hotel terrace with beautiful views, nice balconies, mostly excellent service... You can not ask more from 4 star hotel, even the price is nearly on 5 star level. It is clearly visible that hotel management is taking care of every segment and in general doing great job. I would recommend this hotel to anybody who likes quiet, relaxing holiday in a fine hotel.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the sea view.

Have been to Maestral multiple times and have seen it go through lots of changes over the past 30 years.
I will therefore review in detail - for those interested- all the ups and downs

Beach access- major downgrade

The hotel was built in the 70's as part of the Sv. Stefan- Milocer hotel group. The hotel guests had access to all three beaches, i.e - the Przno beach ( which is now the hotels only water access - and by far the least attractive), the Queens beach ( the most charming secluded little cove which is now restricted to the Milocer Hotel guests only- you cannot even pay for entrance) and the Kings Beach- adjacent to the Queens and to my mind the nicest montenegrian beach ( entrance 75 euros per day- not a typo: seventy five euros for an umbrella/two chairs/beach towels- but at least you can get in if you're willing to pay that much).

Outdoor pool- improved

Triangular infinity pool- great view, not for swimming, more for lounging, not heated ( my kids freeze after 10 min), gets crowded in the afternoon.

Rooms- improved
Small but functional, clean with comfortable beds and bathroom. Cleaning staff very efficient and helpful. Unlike most of the US and the Carribean, you come back from breakfast and your beds are already made. The hotel only provides soap and shampoo- no extra conditioner, lotion, body wash - which a hotel of this category and price range should have. One important thing to point out in Montenegro- the water supply in Przno/ Milocer is reliable. Budva and the rest of the country have water issues.

Food- minor downgrade

Breakfast buffet- same selection every day, but overall OK. The cold cuts of meat and the cheese selection are decent. The bread quality not great. Minimal fruit selection (canned pineapple, kiwi, oranges and grapefruit). The cake and biscuit selection has deteriorated over the years. No home made cherry/nut pies anymore. All ready-made.
Dinner buffet- decent, good variety, large fruit selection. desert section needs improvement.
Key point- charming patio with great views to enjoy your breakfast/dinner

Service- top quality for Montenegro- has always been great

Casino- major downgrade
I understand that it is a major money maker- but the clientele does not bode well for a picture perfect family vacation.

Price/Value-
To justify a 360 euro per day tab (sea view room/ king bed, two children 4 and 6, with only one extra bed) would need a better beach. Will not return to overcrowded small hotel beach.

Room Tip: Sea view room in the old part of the hotel- higher floors

Great for weekend getaway or a conference. Been there with family and for a conferences and it offers a very good venue for both.
Enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pool.
There is a lovely tiny island with a stone house on it that adds to the attraction.
Also the casino can make your stay more interesting... of course if you win :-)
However, the overall staff service could be improved.
I know I'll go there again.

We arrived at the Maestral on our honeymoon; on cloud nine after a wonderful wedding in Dubrovnik. From the start, we were concerned. We drove down from Croatia and when we got to the car park, we got a surly reception from the staff on the gate. As we were away for 3 weeks, we had a fair amount of luggage. No directions to reception or offer of help with our bags were given.

When we tried to check in, there were no smiles, no hello. They also had made a mistake with our booking (that had been made nearly a year in advance) and kept asking if we our booking was made under a different name. To be fair, the reception staff did say that this wasn't a problem, but the miserable attitude and lack of any welcome was really upsetting given that we had only been married 2 days by this point. The cherry on the cake was when I mentioned that it was our honeymoon. There was no smile, no congratulations, just an angry "Yes. I can see from your booking reservation".

No one offered to help us with our luggage, no directions to the room were given. The hotel is large, and the room was a considerable distance from reception. The signs were poor, meaning we were wandering round the hotel with heavy bags trying to find our room. There are also quite a few stairs, meaning we had to carry heavy bags up and down those too.

The hotel is very tired and in need of refurbishment. The carpets and furniture in the hallways are marked and dirty. There is also a glass walkway with views of what I think used to be a water feature, but now after years of disrepair looks like little more that sewage outlet.

Our room was meant to be one of the best sea view rooms. It had a sea view if you can see past the children's playground, the ice cream stand, the cafe and a beach so packed with sun loungers and umbrellas, it must be like a game of sardines on the beach. Again, the carpets and furnishings in the room are tired and dirty.

I should also add that it appeared that the carpets were being replaced in some parts of the hotel, which is no bad thing. However, it was 36 degrees when we arrived and the air throughout the hotel was thick with carpet glue. I am not a drama queen, but the mixture of heat and solvent made me feel faint. This kind of maintenance should not be done in summer months. There was also a sign saying the pool was shut for 3 days during our stay for maintenance.

We went for a drink in the hotel beach bar, and again, no smiles and no courtesy. The local beers were 4 EUR each. The most expensive during our entire stay in both Croatia and Montenegro.

We were so taken aback by the sour, unfriendly service and the poor appearance of the hotel we did something we have never done before. We stayed for one night and checked out the next morning. Thankfully, our travel company was able to secure a refund for the remainder of our 8 night booking! However, we received a message that the hotel manager was upset that we didn't like the hotel and would like to meet us. We were a little taken aback, but to her credit, the manager was very nice and seemed genuinely upset that we had not had a good experience. She offered us two other rooms, and if we didn't like these, then we could have a refund. We were shown the rooms by another unfriendly surly member of staff. One of them was a more newly decorated one, but had a view of a wall. The other was a sea view just as tired, stained and poorly appointed as our first room.

The hotel has a private beach, but was so packed, I personally wouldn't want to spend time there. The bay is beautiful, and the walk round to Sveti Stefan is lovely, but Budva itself seems ruined. Too many high rise ugly buildings ruining the natural beauty of the area. There are quite a few bars and restaurants nearby.

This is a huge hotel, designed for mass package holidays. If you were a family with small children, the hotel does have plenty of amenities and as mentioned, it's own private beach which many hotels in Montenegro don't have.

I'm pleased to say that the Maestral and Budva are not representative of the rest of Montenegro which we found to be full of lovely people and stunning natural beauty. If you are considering the Maestral for a romantic break or god-forbid a honeymoon, please avoid!
