“Lovely place, but can be overwhelmed by groups”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

We had a lovely bungalow overlooking the river - probably the best they have with a super bathroom (bath with a view), lovely big room and a terrace with huge loungers. Do not expect room service or cleaning if your are here for more than one night, even in the luxury bungalow. The generator only comes on in the evening, so no hot water until then, and the pressure wasn't great.

The location really is special, sandwiched between the Senegal River and the Atlantic ocean, sun rising over the river and setting over the ocean. We only wish it had been warmer when we were there, although I am not sure we would have swum in the river having seen the rubbish poured into it in Saint Louis a few kms upstream. Walks along the beach were wonderfully wild and there are plenty of activities to keep you busy.

We were on a two night stay and one of those nights unfortunately co-incided with a big group who of course dominated the place and shattered the silence. The bundle for breakfast in the morning was spectacular.

Service was friendly but totally slow - breakfast at 7 for an early departure means hanging about for about half an hour before cups and baguettes start to appear. Drinks with dinner? Took forever. Food was ok, but served in a great big tent so lots of atmosphere and one of the waiters dresses up to do Senegalese dancing after dinner, which is quite fun.

It is a very nice place, with lots of thoughtful touches (ping pong anyone?), but it does have a certain "school camp" feel to it when you have a big group staying there.

Room Tip: Luxury bungalow is great, and the house on stilts on the beach looked great (but probably not when i...

We were only able to stay here 1 night due to our itinerary which was a huge mistake as we did NOT want to leave. This place has a great vibe, it's very relaxing and you can easily laze the day away on the beach or in the lounge area. However, there's also lots of activities (games, sports, boat rides, etc) if you prefer to be a bit more active.

The owners and staff are incredibly hospitable and helpful. The food was great, and the ambiance of the restaurant - an open air Mauritanian tent with after dinner live music - was fantastic. We stayed in one of the pilotes - tents - so it was basic, but atmospheric and comfortable (ie beds!). There is a communal washroom block that was clean and had hot water in the evenings.

we wish it had been longer but only had two days and nights here. agnes and jerome were wonderful and the accommodation (the pilotis) was glorious.

if you're vegetarian dont be frightened to ask for niebbe (a bean dish)-as protein is hard to come by if you dont eat meat, fish or poultry.

we will be returning thats for sure!!!

nigel and pat

Room Tip: splurge and get a pilotis!!!

This is the kind of place I will return to -- absolutely incredible natural setting on a tiny strip of sand in the Atlantic, next to a national park. Relaxed and laid-back atmosphere reminds you that nothing can be too upsetting here. Taking a quick pirogue ride over over from Saint Louis, the genial owner greeted us barefoot on the dock and helped us get our bags to our tent (which is one of the most delightful places I've ever slept -- cool breezes tickling my forehead in the morning, perfect quiet, warm blankets on a exceptionally comfortable bed.) The deck area is perfect for afternoon games, wine, or reading, and the accessibility to two long, pristine beaches is beyond compare. Add to all this a huge, beautiful dining tent and drum performances, and I can't imagine a better way to spend a holiday. Just fantastic.

I've been living in Saint-Louis for 2 years now and this is still my favorite spot to come and unwind - alone or with family and friends.

Operated by a friendly and dynamic French couple + their eternally friendly and jolly staff, this campement is a haven of peace and quiet 30 minutes away from Saint-Louis.

Excellent food, excellent company, opportunity to go swimming in either the river or the ocean. You can take a long walk in either direction of the peninsula, take their catamaran out for a bit or just sit back with a cocktail under a palm tree doing absolutely nothing.

Highly recommended.

Beautiful location, simple but charming accomodation, tasty dinners in a big tent. Very much enjoyed staying here.
