“Fair choice”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

I had to stay in Rm Valcea for two days,on a business trip. Sofianu has turned to be a good choice due to their spacious rooms and friendly personnel. It's easy to reach, confortable and clean.
The art lovers will find an interesting gallery (belonging to the hotel's owner) and also paintings and sculptures inside and outside the building.
Unfortunately, during the first night, there was some agitation due to a high school or college party hosted by the hotel and I had to witness the enthusiastic noises of "young graduates getting friendly" rituals through the thin walls, till about three in the morning, but then again... isn't it wonderful to be young?...
The breakfast offer is abundent and the internet (cable) connection works just fine.
So, if you ask for a room with a park view and there's no party going on, you can have a perfect stay !

Room Tip: Ask for a room with park view.

We only stayed here for one night, but I must say that the hotel was impressive. The owners are passionate about art, so that there are lots of statues and paintings all over the place. The hotel is quite elegant and it's right next to a park. The staff was very friendly, the hotel is very clean, very comfy, nicely furnished. Our room was very spacious and the bed was huge. We were there in December, and the rooms was very warm. We liked the restaurant as well. There's internet (wifi & cable) and a private parking lot. And it's not only a hotel, it's also a spa & treatment facility and they have a huge pool. Overall, great place to stay, definitely recommend it!

We stayed for a night at Sofianu Grand Hotel while attending a wedding reception in its banquet hall and recommend this hotel for its service, location and excellent art collection. Our quiet and very spacious room overlooking the park was very comfortable although due to high demand that night we were given a double room.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you specify if you want a matrimonial room as the beds in double room cannot be easily joi...

After driving through the border between Bulgaria and Romania we were a little apprehensive..However we were delighted with the Grand Hotel Sofianu in Ramnicu Valcea this hotel is situated next to a beautiful park, it has safe parking front and at the rear..WiFi and wired Internet... very friendly staff, excellent service.. This unique hotel has many interesting sculptures and paintings, We booked a very affordable spacious suite, with a good sized comfortable bed, large bathroom with jacuzzi style bath/shower plenty of very hot water, separate toilet. Lovely fresh flowers (roses and chrysanthemums) my only feminine niggle -the lack of lighting and mirror in the bedroom. The dining room with garden views serve delicious food. We tried their fillet steak, pork loin, pasta, chicken stew, various starters, lovely sauces and some excellent wines, whilst listening to live music, a very talented Trio- violinist, key board and vocals..We extended our stay :) NB Ramnicu Valcea is a lovely town it has some beautiful buildings, wonderful country side ..We highly recommend..

Room Tip: all rooms are away from the road..

This was the best hotel I've stayed in Romania. It was built recently but the architecture is reminiscent of a grand, "belle epoque": high ceilings, tastefully decorated rooms with wooden panels, antique-like furniture and burgundy curtains / bed covers. It does house an impressive art collection, paintings and sculptures on the side. The spa /swimming pool looked good but we didn't try them on that occasion. The restaurant looked elegant but the food was not good, very tough beef steak. We stayed for 2 nights and they did not enter to clean our room in the meantime. The hot-cold signs on the taps in the bathroom were also the wrong way round so we ended up not showering as the water was cold whichever way we turned the taps and no matter how long we waited. But still recommend this place overall and advise to ask for a room with a view of Zavoi park.

New and stylish hotel, tastefully decorated, placed at the entrance of Zavoi Park.
Big collection of contemporary painting and marble sculpture placed on all locations.
Big and very clean rooms with large and modern bathrooms.
Small private parking area, swimming pool and sauna, big conference room.
Friendly staff.
Nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the nearby park.

We were very impressed with the style of the hotel which looks pretty much like a museum due to its permanent art exibition.
As this is a new hotel being established 2 years ago everything was in great condition and very tastefully decorated. The room had a flatscreen tv and very comfortable beds. The bathroom was lovely and finished to a high standard! I especially liked the shower.
The hotel is very close to the dowtown of the city.
