“Massive rooms in prime location !”

Sadly only here for 1 night as this hotel is very bright, clean & spacious. No lift but only 1 flight of steps. Massive bathroom too. Helpful receptionist speaks good English.

We stayed here, the 1st hotel of 4 on our four night drive in Romania. We parked the car on the street just up from the hotel as there were no spaces in front of the hotel. In reception we asked if the car was ok where it was and one of the employees moved her car from the front so we could park there.

Check in was quick and smooth and we were shown to our room by the receptionist. On entering the room the bathroom was on the left, spotlessly clean, wardrobe to the right with shoe cleaning facilities inside and we were faced with a tv on a cabinet in the corner, a full size bar and a small sofa. Behind the bar was a mini fridge containing various drinks, glasses and a price list (very reasonable). Off this room was the bedroom with a dressing table and mirror and a very comfortable bed and pillows. The bed was two single mattresses housed on a double bed frame. There were not enough plug sockets in the room, it was very hot, so hot I turned off the electric radiators (there were two). It was a smoking room but there were air fresheners dotted around to mask the smell One was battery operated which ejected a 'whoosh' every few minutes and was so overpowering I dismantled it and opened the windows. The lamps and overhead lighting were very dim but this is the norm in eastern Europe. Plus, the plug socket was hanging off the wall but we found this to be the case in the four hotels we stayed in. There was no view through the window, it faced a balcony of another building so not much natural daylight came in.

The bathroom was clean and bright but the shower was not very powerful and the water ran hot and cold. Soap, shower gel, a small sewing kit and hair dryer was provided and there was a also a magnifying mirror to the side of the large mirror over the sink.

On check in we were offered breakfast in our room but opted to eat downstairs. As a previous reviewer stated, the breakfast area is 3 small tables in the reception area. There was one guy seated there and over the course of the next 10mins 3 others walked in from outside, sat down with newspapers and were given coffee by the receptionist. I don't know if they were guests or locals. We sat down and were given a small menu to choose from - eggs, spicy sausage, cereals and not much else but it was sufficient. I am coeliac so I had taken my own bread and asked for some to be toasted, which wasn't a problem. We asked for orange juice but the juice was more like orange squash.

On check out we paid in cash. When the receptionist put the change on the counter she kept her hand on it, she didn't want to hand it over basically.

Overall the hotel is really small, I believe only four rooms. It was tastefully decorated, very clean and the location was superb. We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

+ very good location
+ great people (I had to leave very early and the front desk lady made some sandwiches for me)
+ must be great if you have kids with you due to the 2 room feeling
- the room was a bit too big ... :-)
- missing bath tub (room 4 at least)
- parking on the street, limited parking places (no Hotel private parking)
- only 4 rooms available at the moment

August, 2008

We have booked the room using the Atlantic Hotel website. It is officially presented as a four star facility with only three or four rooms (we do not exactly remember)

The hotel is centrally located and is relatively easy to find. In our opinion it is more of a one night "Motel" and not a hotel.

Unfortunately, this "hotel" doesn't have a private parking and the guests are expected to park adjacent to the sidewalk on a busy street. The hotel management hasn't bothered to mention that at the peak of the tourism session they were through some kind of renovation and maintenance.

Each time a guest liked to access his room he had to be escorted by the hotel receptionist (the only personnel) This weird behavior was explained due to the lack of room keys.

The restaurant didn't function because of the "renovations" and the breakfast was taken in the lobby which in fact was a small corridor 3 meters away from the main entrance.

The room was huge (without proportions) with a gateway to a balcony that is strongly advised not to open if one likes his privacy. The natural light hardly penetrates the room and the artificial light is poor. There was a strong feeling of deprived privacy, smoking odor and installation plumbing problem during showering.

We stayed there 2 nights and on one event they didn't have hot water for the shower.

The hotel isn't recommended for tourists or business unless there isn't a proper alternative in town. The room price in our opinion was very expensive relative to the services offered. One more important thing to add is that they don't have an elevator so be aware not to carry heavy luggage.

I just completed a two week tour of Romania, and the Atlantic was, without a doubt, the best hotel I visited -- in quality, location, and value.

* Quality -- These rooms are huge -- suites, not singles. Mine (the "green suite") included a large bedroom (with balcony), a spacious sitting area, closet and dresser, a bathroom, and a bar. Not a minibar -- a full bar with stools and the works.

The English-speaking staff was extremely helpful, both with directions and other needs. And the breakfast was top-notch.

* Location -- A stone's throw from the two main squares in town. I can't imagine a more central location.

* Value -- Most of my hotels were in the 150-200 Lei (~$70-$90) range. This one was priced at 170 Lei for a single, yet the return -- in size, quality, and location -- exceeded that of any other hotel I visited in Romania.

For what it's worth, Oradea is a beautiful city. I highly recommend it to anyone planning a Romanian adventure.

  • Liked — Huge, beautiful, and tasteful suites; reasonable prices; excellent location in beautiful city
  • Disliked — Stairs to rooms, so wouldn't recommend for a traveler with disabilities

Like the Atlantic a lot and enjoyed my one-night stay here - although it's tiny (4 rooms I think), it's very nice. My room was more of a suite with several different areas, a great bathroom with the most heavily featured shower cubicle I've ever seen. Room also had a bar (not a mini-bar, an actual bar).

No real food is available in the hotel, but despite language barriers, I managed to get some food ordered and delivered by the restaurant next door - it was quite amusing seeing a four course meal laid out on the bar.

All in all, a good stay.
