It was the best sunrise on the first day of my 24th year. No need to hire a tour guide. It's easy to get up to the mountain. You can have your own map. Sagada is 12 to 13 hour land travel. The fastest way to get to the mountain province is via Ifugao. There are certain buses that leave Manila round 9pm to 10:30pm. You can drop up in Bontoc, the main town in Mt. Province and then top load to Sagada for an hour or you can have your way up to Sagada. I had chosen the first one with my girlfriend forever who celebrated her birthday a day before mine.

good place to wait for the sun to shine...you need to be there early to get a nice spot to seat and wait for the sunrise...you can also bring along your breakfast..

If you like the view from Mt. Polis, I'm sure you will also like the view from Kiltepan. The sun's glimpse is really hard to see, but if your timing is right, you will see probably one of the best sunrises in the North.

After our grueling day of Cave Connections/Spelunking on January 10, 2013, we decided to watch the sunrise at Kiltepan the next morning. Our guide suggested that instead of Kiltepan, we could go to Marlboro Country where the sun rise views would be spectacular.

We left our pension at 4:30 a.m. with much anticipation of seeing the beauty of the sun rise. It was drizzling a little bit when we walked from the area where our driver left us to the clearing. The 45-minute walk felt like 10 hours of walking as we traversed some muddy areas of Marlboro Country in the dark.

We waited and waited for the sun to rise. Due to heavy fog, we did not see the sun rise. Like happy campers, we shared stories while waiting for the sun to appear and took a lot of pictures (mostly blurred ones). For snacks, we shared and enjoyed the 4 rolls or pan de sal (left over from my Baguio trip).

Around 6:00 a.m. , we called it a day and gave up of seeing the sun rise. As we walked back to the place where we need to meet our driver, we saw that Marlboro Country was embellished with manure/pooh, either from horses or cows. We 're glad that we did not step on any one of them during our early walk.

Suggestion: Have an open mind about seeing the sun rise. One might see it, one might not. The guides have no control over the weather, the thick fog, the drizzle, etc. None in our group complained about the dense fog and not seeing the sun rise. In the end, we all had fun.
