“Treacherous but worth it”
Review of Sumaguing Cave

Sumaguing Cave
Ranked #1 of 20 things to do in Sagada

Liked: the adventure and the adrenaline of finishing the trek down the cave. The formations are worth the trip.
Disliked: nobody warns you beforehand how challenging the steps are. The guides will tell you in the middle of the trek that you will get muddy.

The best decision I ever made was to go spelunking from Sumaguing to Lumiang cave. Do not pass out on the opportunity as the experience was amazing. Most of our tour mates did not opt to take the cave connection as they did not want to get so tired. Prepared to get wet and go into steep holes. Also the best footwear for this are slippers and wear something light to get around as you will get wet. One of the highlights of my trip here.

Sagada has a charm like no other. It is like being transported into another world especially if you stray 10 minutes away from the town centre. The Sumaguing Cave is just one of its appeal but just being on Sagada land is magical.

If you're looking for some spelunking fun then this cave is the perfect one for you. The cave connections goes deep under and the icy cold waters will surprise you. The rock formations can be interpreted into so many things and the beauty of the cave is unforgettable. The guide will take you back 400 per person plus 400 for the transportation. So if you're wise go in groups to save more money. Nevertheless, this is just a 30 minutes walk from town so if you're really saving then walk. Imagination is the key to the beauty of the caves and brace yourselves for acrobatic fun. Warm up or exercise before going here because rapelling and fitting through holes is no joke. Most of all bring a waterproof camera and bring less to cherish the moments. P.S. Most of the odor from the inside comes from bats.

Very dark cave so it's essential that you have a good torch and strong guides. Insurance also might come in handy.
