“Longing for return!”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Wonderful natural site, situated in canyon between towering mountains alongside rushing river. Not a " touristy" place, but rather one to experience local culture, populace of all ages enjoying themselves and welcoming, helpful to us. Extremely reasonably priced.
Pathway through site is rimmed with local women in their village dress (& often children too) sitting around small fires cooking the local foods for purchase. There are also open- fronted stores, mostly offering items to be used at baths/caves. (I had not brought swimsuit in with me & chose to wear one, so purchased my "Peruvian" suit at one of the stalls.)
There are both private hot natural mineral water baths and private rock hot steam caves using the same water source. I had plan to do the bath, but ended up begging to do an extended cave time--- (Time in caves is carefully monitored by staff to guard against participant overheating.). The caves are small, fairly deep, and dark with icy cold shower/water source in each cave site. They are EXQUISITE! I was there three times in three days, and now back in the US, I long for the steam cave experience.

“niet erg mooi”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

We went to the Banos, and we were only alloud in the two baths downstairs, because we had kids with us. The water is brown, but that we knew. The bigger bath is not very warm and the smaller is warm, but only 30 cm deep. There are also no changingrooms and only 6 chairs where you can sit on. The kids had fun, but if I was without kids I wouldn´t go there.

“Warm and relaxing after a long hike”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

Take a taxi or a public bus to get there and enjoy the warm water. Ask your hostel for common prices for taxis to ensure you pay not more then necessary. The water looks very brown, but does the job. Close to the place where the water enters the pool it is the warmest and tempting to hang out. If you do not like to get changed in the rest room, inquire about a changing cabin when you enter and also about an locker for your personal belongingsnifnyou don't want to leave them on one of the benches. There are small private bath tubs if you want to have some privacy whilst soaking in the water.
