This lodge is in a quiet part of Caraz, has lots of space, beautifull gardens and a inner atrium with relaxing chairs. The public area is very cosy and there's even a veranda!

We came here because we read about the camping spot. We were shown to the garden, in itself a nice grassy spot, but without a bit of privacy. Unfortunately the owner changed his opinion about camping. When we came back from our hike we heard camping wasn't alowed anymore. No particular reason was offered. We think because it's not posh enough, our impression is that we don't pay enough money, so of course any hospitality isn't on the menu. But we could be wrong no doubt. Why call your edifice a place for 'lodging and camping' is only logic to the owner probably.

Prices are quite high: 30 soles per night for camping and 50 for the cheapest room, without bathroom. In Huaraz for example, we had a room for 20 soles. But fair is fair, Los Pinos is very nice. One other downside was when we wanted to read in the common area, we turned the music off. There were no other people mind you, and we do like our quiet moments! The caretaker was almost quarreling with us, because she wanted the volume UP. Because of the other guests she said, but there were no other guests.. In my opinion lack of hospitality for no apparant reason.

Beware there is no kitchen also!

The Caraz mountain area is shockingly beautifull!!! Beware of the hungry agressive cows roaming around, they will tear up your tent in search for food, as it happened to us! Mind also there is no supermercado in Caraz, buy your stuff in Huaraz before comming here.

If your demands are not high than you might be pleased with this lodge situated just 7 minutes walk from the central plaza of Caraz. Prices are as low as 80 soles per double room, including a very simple breakfast.
The garden and the friendly owner Luis are the better parts of this establishment.
In our room (no. 01) the warm water was shared with the shower for the people camping in the garden, so we regularly ran short of it, resulting in a cold morning shower. Furthermore the boiler leaked and our bathroom regularly had a wet floor.
Unfortunately we also had to find some bugs in one of our two beds that led to itching spots on the legs.
Because of all these points we cannot recommend the lodge - however, other rooms in the lodge may be better. We couldn't find out as all other rooms weren't vacant.

The Lodge with 12 rooms (private bath) is located in Caraz about 70 KM from Huaraz, in the middle of the "cordilliras blanca". Its a laid back town, with some nice restaurants and shops. The Lodge is in an old but very clean and safe massive, multicolored mansion. There is a lot of space in the garden for hanging around and having some breathtaking views on the white capped mountains. There is a little restaurant with very comfy seats and free wifi (not available in my room).
The room was large with cable-tv and a wonderful great bathroom with hot shower.
The included breakfast was with egg, fresh juice and coffee as much as you can eat and drink.
But the best of all is Luis, the fluently english speaking owner. He is the most helpful guy I met during my 28 day round trip by car. He knows everything around that area and offer fantastic trekking- and biking tours for a very reasonable price.
Last but not least, due to some heavy rain during the night, there was in the morning no water supply in the whole town. They cut the rate for my room without asking for 20 percent.
If you want to hide away from the touristic Huaraz this should be your choice!
