We booked two triple rooms and received an email quote for $70/room. When we checked out, we were asked to pay $80. Not a big deal, but it left me with a bad feeling about this place. I'd probably stay here again, only next time I'd bring my email with the quote I received. The rooms are adequate. The bathrooms were fairly clean. Hot water worked well. Location was good. It was a little noisy but not too bad. Breakfast was good. All of Aguas Calientes is one big tourist trap, but it's totally worth it for Machu Picchu.

When we researched TripAdvisor to select a hotel for our two night stay in Aguas Calientes there didn't appear to be any standouts. Wirachocha Inn had the number one ranking, so we decided to book there. The rate was a reasonable US$55 per night.
We were met at the train station by a young man from the hotel who spoke english and walked us to the hotel (other family members didn't speak english). It is a little distance up the hill on which Aguas Calientes is located, but not too far to be uncomfortable (no more than 10 minutes slow walk). In fact we liked the location as it was away from the main square and entertainment areas and therefore 'party' noise was not a problem. Also assisting in creating a peaceful sleeping environment was a rapidly flowing stream running beside the hotel. Our room faced onto it and we had lovely views of it and the surrounding mountains. The Inn seems to be a family-run business.
Our room on the second floor (only two floors) was large with plenty of space. The bathroom was also a good size and there was plenty of hot water.
A simple breakfast was included in the room rate, and we asked what time was it served. We were told they usually started serving about 5:30 am for the early risers going to Machu Picchu. We said that we would probably not worry about breakfast as we wanted to leave around 5:00am to ensure that we would get on one of the first buses to Machu Picchu (we intended to climb Huayna Picchu). When we got downstairs next morning at a few minutes before 5:00am they had set up breakfast (fruit juice, bread rolls, cheese, ham, jam, fruit, tea and coffee). We thought that was very good service.
In summary, we were very pleased we selected this hotel. Wiracocha Inn is a clean, comfortable, 3-star hotel. We couldn't fault it for the price, and If we returned to Aguas Calientes we would definitely stay here again.

We spent a night in Aguas Calientes after hiking the Inca Trail. Quite frankly, we were not expecting a lot after reading some of the reports about Aguas Calientes on this and other forums, but we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in to the Wiracocha Inn. It is a friendly, family run hotel that has been recently remodeled. It is situated up the hill from the main section of town, away from the railroad tracks, and on the banks of the Urubamba River. We were shown to a smallish, but clean and pleasant room with huge sliding glass windows that opened to a very nice view of the river. This section of the river is all white water, so in addition to the visual benefit, we were serenaded by the sound of cascading water rushing over the boulders in the river bed. The hotel is also located just a short walk from the Aguas Calientes hot springs and my wife went straight there to soak in comfort after the 4-day hike. I couldn’t resist the hot shower in the room and happily washed away the dirt and grime in creature comfort. The breakfast was typical Peruvian and sufficient. At check-out the next morning, the owner’s were kind enough to store our bags for the day while we did some sightseeing around the town and waited for our afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo. Aguas Calientes is certainly a pure tourist town but is not an unpleasant place to spend a leisurely day if you walk out to the Machu Picchu museum and botantical garden. The serene and pleasant Wiracocha Inn is a very nice compliment to all the activities associated with the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.

This a good place to stay in Aguas Caliente though its basically above average in general. The room is clean and the staff are helpful. Some bugs do get in but nothing more than expected. Location wise, its close to the market and the train station (via the market) but is a 7 - 10 min walk uphill from the center of town and the main square. Some may find the walk tiring if you're stuck with all your luggage.

Breakfast is fairly typical of Peru and the laundry service worked out fine. We asked for the "Lonely Planet" rate and got the room for $45/nite (we stayed one nite).

Overall, a good value and I'd recommend it for Aguas Caliente.

At least the shower was hot, though the water has been off on the morning that we had to leave. In this day, we must awake at 5:00 AM with knocks in the door, despite we haven't requested wake-up service.
