“Does The Job.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Our hiking company booked us to stay at Wiracocha. Be warned... there are bugs and i mean a multitude of BUGS everywhere in this hostel/hotel. You'll seem them when you come in and you'll them in your room. IF your room is bug infested just simply go downstairs and request a new room (preferably without windows), my aunt got eaten alive by mosquitoes that night.

Our original room's sheets were new, but the new room was really old but I took that over being bitten all night. It gets the job done after a long hike and you'll be out the door early in the morning to head to Machu Picchu.

Breakfast is good and the staff is friendly. There is free luggage storage and they picked us up at the train stop and took us down there. Would I return? Definitely not but at least it gave us a comfy bed with a hot shower before our wonderful day at Machu Picchu! Have realistic expectations and you'll be fine.

Room Tip: Rooms without windows are the best. Check your room, bathroom, ceilings, sheets before crawling in!

It's a really simple hostel. Near from the train station and the hot springs pools.
The food is good and the service too.
It's a place for passing by, not recommended for staying.. There is no reason for staying at Aguascalientes but machupichu.. 1 night it's enough

We really just needed a place to stay that was close to the bus station for a pre-dawn departure, but we wanted something relatively quiet and clean. We had reserved a matrimonial, but the room had a depressing view over a broken down cement building, so the staff were really gracious in showing us a few more choices. We picked a much smaller room with a window that looked out at the river and it was fine. There was plenty of hot water and a really nice breakfast that we managed to push down before the short walk to the bus stop. It's a big and rambling hotel without much ambience, but the staff really were kind and welcoming and that makes all the difference.

Room Tip: Aim for the upper level as I think it's quieter and further away from the lobby noise.

Having had my share of travel experience I like to think I have a good frame of reference. For the inexperienced traveler, staying at a place like Wiracocha Inn may be a disappointment. I suspect this is due to tourist measuring this place against what they are familiar with. It's only when you measure this location against the other locations available that you begin to see Wiracocha Inn for what it really is, a relatively clean, modestly priced and ideally located inn.

I found the room to be adequately clean. Bathroom had plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable enough and the linens were clean. Very few hotels in these areas (Cusco etc.) have heating. The hotel provided us with an oil radiator type heater that warmed the room nicely. Our room even had a nice view of the river and town on the other side. The staff was polite and helpful with any questions we had about the area. At night we were able to explore the town freely and head back to the Inn where an employee was awaiting our return behind locked doors. The Inn is a few minutes’ walk from the Plaza, market areas and train station.

Yes there are locations that boast better accommodations, decor and amenities, no question! But be prepared to pay for it! If you’re looking for a better value without sacrificing cleanliness, comfort and convenience then give Wiracocha a look.

The only reason I dont rank this hotel as "terrible" is the nice and welcoming staff.
I stayed just one night there in order to get on time to the sunrise in Machu Picchu.
Luckily I was too tired to complain/change room/change hotel and went straight to bed.
On my way to bed I could neither miss nor ignore the smashed mosquito on the wall.
The room was unclean, unpleasant and unwelcoming.
The staff, on the other hand, was very nice, polite and helpful.
I don't know what is the reason for this negligence but this place seems to acceptable in 2 conditions: 1. That you stay there not more than one night. 2. That you are very tired after a day of travelling and you fall right to bed.

We arrived at night, after a long day at the Sacred Valley and a 3 hours ride on the train, and left early morning to Machu Picchu.
In these few hours we slept in a small but clean room. Water was cold but we told the manager and we got hot water. Even they forgot to pick us up from the train station, as they said, the town is not big and everybody is friendly.
Breakfast was included and was very good. We left at 8 am to MAPI and the hotel storage our luggage until we came back. Very friendly people, that's why it was my 2nd time staying here. This was one of the cheapest options we found on high season. We couldn't expect a Ritz Carlton.
I can say that on our short stay, both times, we never had any problem. It was a good stay.

The Wiracocha in a good, reasonable choice in a location known for expensive hotels. It is conveniently located near the cafe-restaurant area of Aguas Calientes (Macchu Pichu). No frills. Warm and friendly staff. My wife and I differ: I liked this place more than she. But we both agree that it is primarily "functional." If you wan more frill and comfort, this might not be the best spot. But I liked it and liked the sound of the waterfall outside of our room. It felt something like a mountain cabin.
