“Solid for one evening”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

This is meant for a basic room. No glitz and glam. Don't plan on unpacking and resting here ... but certainly sufficient if you can keep your travel basic. Had a corner room looking out over the river. Great noise to sleep in.

In regards to the title..... One of the workers of the hotel opened our door ( without knocking )with their own key at 5a.m, turned the lights on and started coming in as we started yelling and covering our naked parts in the middle of a dream. But this wasn't a dream. They mistaken our room for an empty one and were about to let more guests in. I came to see Macchu Picchu - NOT HAVE AN ORGY!!! =-) ( NOT YET )

The hotel is quite cute and mostly clean. We came in mid September of 2012, right after the end of the busy season. Our keys and the keys of our friends were consistently left laying on top of the frot desk. At first we didn't feel very safe about it,but then we really didn't care. There were literally 3 rooms taken in the whole property and there is possibly 10-20 rooms total??? Not sure. So, the person at the front desk really didn't have much to do, but to guard our keys. Many windows go out to the creek thats right outside. To those who love the sound of water - this is heaven. I personally hate it - so I hated it. The air is clean and doesn't stink of mosqito spray and the room windows are left wide open to airate the property, thus leaving room for many bugs and mosqitos. Again - nature - not dirt. Aguas Calients in general is a loud little city, which is the starting point to the walk to Macchu Picchu. About 2 hours. We paid about $65 per room and I thought that it was pretty reasonable. Keep in mind that this was AFTER the busy season. Most hotels were empty. There was an included breakfast, but unfortunately super early. Something like 5a.m.-7or8a.m. Due to the trains schedule. If I am not mistaken - their checkout time is also a bit nutty, like 9a.m, but again, due to train schedule and people needed to get into their rooms early to relax. Hit me up if you have any more questions.

I thought the hotel itself was cute and the front desk people were nice. The computer was broken, but they let me use their lap top to check my emails and Facebook account after being on the Inca trail for 4 days. The shower was good and my room had a nice view and the wonderful sound of the river outside the window was nice. The breakfast was a little light (just coffee, juice, fruit, and some frittatas, but that is the usual continental breakfast in the states at hotels, too).

Despite all of this, I am giving it a low rating because, as soon as we hunkered down in our bed to relax while watching some TV, we starting to get little bites. We looked and looked, but could find no actual bugs, yet in the morning, we had the tell tale red bumps on our arms and legs. My roomate and I quickly hung our bags up on hooks and put our clothes in plastic bags, just in case there were bugs. We stayed at another hotel in Cusco before the treck and had no such bug bites, but after our stay here, I've continually woken up with little itchy bites, even now that I'm home. I am now bleaching, washing, and fogging everything I took with me on the trip, as well as my entire bed room. I also did some research and learned that we didn't look hard enough for the bugs. They don't hide in plain sight - we shoudl have looked behind the mattress close to the wall and behind pictures, etc.

Beware when staying here!

The bed in this hotel is amazingly comfortable with a nice warm down comforter, and the shower has hot water all day long - two amenities you will appreciate after a day hiking. Breakfast is lackluster and the checkout is quite early (9am), but overall everything is clean and in good order.

For the price this place was a good deal. The beds were comfortable and clean. The bathroom was ok, a little mildew smell. Get a room on top floor with a bathroom that vents outside. Most important they do NOT take credit cards. Breakfast was adequate.

Just a short distance to the Aguas Caliente train station lies this small hotel along the Urubumba River. Pro's - it's location..right along the river, not in the thick of the town and close to the train station. Comfortable bed, decent breakfast and good service. Con's - Bathrooms were tiny and it seemed like there was no ventilation so you had to keep the windows open, which let the mosquitos in and outside noise, otherwise the walls in the room would get wet and therefore mold accumulation. I hung up a pair of pants in the room after a slight rainfall and they never got dry.

We stayed in this hostal as part of a trek tour, so we had no idea what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and came with 2 single beds. The bathroom was also a decent size. There was a TV with English channels, as well as good wifi available. The room does come with a breakfast . It is located up the hill a bit in Aguas Calientes, which can feel miles away after a long day of hiking.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, but there were a few notable things. We went to bed very early because we were tired from our trek and the employees called the room at 9:45PM to ask what time we would be having breakfast the next morning. Also, the rooms have windows that look out into the hallways which were covered with curtains and a wardrobe in front of the window. There were also glass partitions separating the room from the hallway which meant the light seeped in until they turned off the lights in the hallway. Finally, there was a window in our shower with no curtains or any other way to block the view. There were other buildings facing the window, so it made it not very private to try to take a shower. Please install some curtains on the windows in the bathrooms!
