Definitely rates as my favorite hotel in Peru. The rooms are luxurious and the furnishings Peruvian. The service was first class - we were met at the door with cool cloths after a dusty day at Machu Picchu as well as iced tea and appetizers while we signed in. There was also a dish of treats in our room and nightly chocolates. Luggage came quickly. We had a Ceviche and Pisco Sour demonstration before dinner and got one of each. Both were excellent. We had a nice selection for dinner and everything was delicious. Nice breakfast buffet. Beds were very comfortable. Very short walk to the bus for Machu Picchu, train station, and market. Loved it, loved it, loved it! P.S. I give 5 stars very sparingly and seldom don't find suggestions for improvement. There is nothing I can suggest to improve this hotel or service.

Room Tip: Our room faced the small street but it was very quiet.

We were on a Collette tour and this hotel was chosen for our stay before going to Machu Picchu. When we entered the hotel, we were offered a towelette and some lemonade to freshen up. Service was impeccable, with a demonstration of how to create a Pisco Sour and Ceviche. The food was outstanding - as wonderful as any 5+ star restaurant. It is well situated, close enough to walk up the hill to the train station and market and close to the hot springs.

The Sumaq hotel was booked for us by our travel agent as part of our Machu Picchu visit. After leaving the train in a mass of humanity and walking about a block, we arrived at the hotel. The entry is beautiful as is the hotel generally. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. The rooms are well designed and have high end furnishings and appointments. Everything is CLEAN. The included breakfast was unique and delicious. The wi-fi worked well in all but our room and the staff actually loaned us a cellular modem to use in the room which solved the problem. We recommend this hotel highly.

Our travel agent booked us in to this hotel, thinking we might need a bit of pampering after hiking in Machu Picchu. It was a great choice. Bags are collected at the train station and are at the hotel when you return from Machu Picchu. You are seated at check-in, given a hot towel, a ginger tea and a small snack. The room was huge, with a modern bathroom, well-stocked with amenities. There is a free afternoon tea, which we didn't attend, and a free pisco sour in happy hour, which we did!. The evening meal, included in our package, was of an exceptional standard, as was the service. We had an early departure the next morning but the breakfast was ready at 5am, as promised. It was of the same high standard as the evening meal. As we were having another day in Machu Picchu, we checked out early; our bags were taken to the station to be collected before boarding. We had time to attend the free cooking demonstration at 2pm, with pisco sour and ceviche tasting. Chocolates were provided to the room. A wonderful indulgence.

Our hotel stay got off to a rough start--not great food for lunch and expensive. And the most horrible paint smell was outside our room causing us to cough, have watery eyes and also get headaches.

But after that, the stay was wonderful and very pleasant. The hotel is beautifully decorated, the free happy hour is terrific, the food is INCREDIBLE for dinner, and they were nice enough to pack is a very good breakfast for our hike to MP.

There are lots of extras here-free mini bar, chocolates at night, free cooking classes etc. I would highly reccomend this hotel.
