“The Best Hotel in Aguas Calientes”
Reviewed October 21, 2012 via mobile

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. I stayed there one night while visiting Machu Picchu, and everything from the doorman to the spa was top notch. The lobby had plenty of seating available, as well as ice water and tea. The meals were unbelievable, even the buffet brunch -- there was so much to choose from, and something for everyone to enjoy (cereals, fruit, yogurts, breads, juices, pancakes, crepes, eggs, bacon, sausage, rice, turkey, etc.). The guest computers were fast, and the seating in the bar was comfortable so you could bring a book or computer out there while enjoying your free pisco sour. The spa was amazing - so relaxing, especially after several weeks of travel and schlepping luggage around. My one complaint is that there are no screens in the windows, so the room can get quite warm at night with the window closed (otherwise insects get in). The Sumaq was definitely the best hotel I've stayed at in Peru!

We're finishing a tour of Peru, including 7 hotels in various places. Of all the ones we visited, this is the best!

It's right on the main drag for Aguas Callentes and easy to get to and from. The room was large and comfortable. The dinner was extraordinary. All in all, a great hotel in a world famous location. If you're coming to the Sacred Valley and you can afford it, this is the place to stay.

As for the bedbugs noted earlier, neither my wife nor I saw or felt any indication of same. Nobody in the tour group had a problem. Perhaps the earlier reviewer was bitten in Macchu Picchu. The bugs there are fierce, invisible, and their bites can look just like those of bedbugs.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor, facing the river and I suspect that was Ideal. On the first floor facing t...

Beautiful hotel, good location and fantastic service. Congratulations. We loved the hotel, the food was outstanding and the service surprising every day. The service to Machu Picchu was also a high point, since the bus picked us up directly in front of the hotel. The ceviches were highly apreciated, delicious as well, as everything made at the hotel (ice creams, breads....).

Room Tip: Look for higher floor rooms. Some of them are located at the street level, which are not so nice.

We had a good stay at Sumaq drug our 2 day trip to Machu Micchu. The hotel was great in all regards. The room itself was large , with two queen beds, seating area and a large modern bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub. View on the river. Surpirsingly not noisy. Our reservation included breakfast and dinner as well as free pisco sour cocktail. Food was very good. We enjoyed the spa after our hike to Hyana picchu. great facilities and service. Staff was friendly and helpful like anywhere we have been in Peru. Only thing missing to give it a 5 is charm and decoration to our taste, which we had in other hotels in Peru.

The hotel is situated between the main road to Machu Picchu and the rail line. Whilst we were located on a high floor facing the road, noise was not a problem at night. However we could hear the trains at night but once again they were not a problem as they were on the other side of the hotel.

Our room, besides overlooking the road also had excellent views of the river.

No rooms are air comditioned and there are signs to keep the windows closed due to insects.

The room whilst comfortable needed upgrading.

Food and service in the hotel was excellent and staying in Machu Picchu town was definately the best way of spending maximum time exploring the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the river.

An elegant, modern hotel with friendly staff, excellent English and very good service. They will send an employee to the Machu Picchu bus line to save you a spot on the bus and you can then board it right outside the front door- free (except for tip of course). Breakfast buffet looked like it might have been very complete but it hardly opened in time to catch the first bus to Machu Piicchu.
Free Pisco Sour, free bottled water and welcoming snack were nice, excellent dinner in restaurant was included but the costs of non included lunch was ridiculous. The biggest problem is there is no AC or fan in room and they tell you to leave windows closed due to insects. A hotel of this caliber could put window screens in.

Room Tip: as high as possible to get away from the bugs, the people and the noise at street level. First floor...

Beautiful hotel which included breakfast and dinner. The room was pleasantly decorated but no air conditioning. You were advised not to leave the window open at night because of bugs. A fan was delivered to our room which helped immensely. The restaurant opened at 5 am. Nice buffet. Dinner was included with our package. Great menu with alpaca as an option. It was great. No cuy however (guinea pig) About a 15 min walk from the train station, it was located along the Urubamba River.
