“bloody sheet”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

There was a large blood stain from somebody having there period on the sheet of the bed when I checked in. It was clear they never washed the sheet. I made them change my rooms, but I would highly recommend staying anywhere else.

Also, when most people are planning to wake up early to get to Manchu Picchu there is no reason the bar should play loud music until midnight. It was very hard to fall asleep.

I cannot understand how 22 people rated this hostel excellent. Anyway, I may need to review my concepts. When we arrived, there were dirty drink glasses in the room, what showed that wasn't cleaned prior to the arrival. The shower didn't have hot water - I complained to the front desk and they said they had run out of gas, so asked to wait 15 minutes. I tried again, didn't work, and asked for more 15 minutes. Well, after 1 hour, I wasn't able to take a decent shower.
Additionally, the room was very noisy, because of many aspects: (1) people going up and down the stairs all the time; (2) bathroom had no window, but a hole directly in the aisle (3) room was in front of the railroad.
To top it up, the "breakfast" is cold milk, coffee and bread with butter. I don't consider US$ 50 worthy for what it offers. I know options in Aguas Calientes are limited, but some of the failure points (except the location) of this hostel could be solved with simple solutions.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the back

Actually there is nothing really interesting in Aguas Calientes. The town is not nice and is a bit messy. The Ecopackers is located by the railroad; if you are a lightsleeeper, ask for a room in the back or go somewhere else (unless your waking time is 5h00 am). Rooms are ample and the beds are really confortable. The bathroom is awful: the shower water leaches to everywhere. The breakfast is franciscan: bread, butter and milk, coffee or tea. The social space in the top floor is nice, somehow cosy, and have also nice quick food. The people is the better in there: always attentive and very nice. But really consider the need of staying overnight in Aguas Calientes. You can reach Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo taking the earliest train (which is cheaper than the other ones) and still get back to Ollanta in the same day. Ollanta has better and cheaper accomodations than Aguas Calientes and is a charming ancient Inca town, in a addition to have a magnificent Inca temple.

I came in without a reservation on a whim and they took me in no problem, a little more expensive than your average hostel in Peru, but awesome bed, hot showers, good internet and a good restaurant area!

Stayed here after finding out our reservation at Supertramp was cancelled. Double room was basic but included a private bathroom and was very cheap so well worth what you pay and totally acceptable for a short stay the night before heading up to Machu Picchu. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Had a place to store our bags for the day and to change clothes following getting caught in the rain at Machu Picchu.

Room Tip: Our room on the 2nd floor by the stairs was somewhat bright from the hall light and pretty noisy as...

The place look ok but my sister and I stayed in this place for only one night and the bedroom smells bad and we had to moved our bed away from one of the walls due to the smell
Also the noisy from other backpackers was over the top and none of the staff said anything to stop the ppl from a big group staying there to stop running up and dont the stairs at 3am
I dont recommend this place.

The location couldn't get any better, and neither could the price.. I was initially worried about finding accommodations in Aguas Calientes, as my sister and I arrived without reservations, but we were fortunate enough to be directed towards this hostel, and couldn't have been happier.

The hostal itself is a bit unassuming from the outside, but the services are quite comfortable inside. The rooms are rather standard, and my sister and I stayed in a 4 bed dorm that had only us in it for the night, but the beds were comfortable and the blankets warm and cozy. My only complaint about this hostal would be the bathrooms - as soon as you walked in, the stink of mold was overwhelming, and opening the shower curtain, you could immediately see why. The walls were slick with black mold, and it was really quite unappealing to shower in, but having stayed at hostals many times before, I had my flip flops handy and made the best of it. Not enough to keep me away from staying here again, but certainly worth mentioning.

The front desk staff were very friendly and incredibly accommodating the next day when we returned from our trip up to Machu Picchu. We arrived exhausted, hot and sweaty, and in need of a food, drink, and a shower. The gentleman at the front desk leapt into action, asking our food orders so the rooftop bar restaurant could start preparing them while we hopped in the shower. We had technically already checked out and were only storing our baggage there whilst we went up the mountain, so we were very impressed that he would let us use the services for free! After a warm shower in the empty dorm being used for baggage storage, we made our way up to the rooftop lounge, where our food was just about ready. The rooftop lounge was perfect - a pool table, small radio with music playing, a fantastically priced happy hour drink menu, and the fragrance of freshly prepared food sizzling away behind the bar. We sat down, enjoyed a beer, and stared out at the fantastic view of both Aguas Calientes pueblo and the mountains looming above. Our food arrived - the chicken burger, and the alpaca steak - and we devoured with few words exchanged. We then ordered two pisco sours each, lovingly and painstakingly prepared by who I assumed to be the owner or manager (he was so proud of each drink, and brought them over personally to ensure we liked them before walking away!) and mused that it was a perfect end to a fantastic day.

Highly recommended!
