We stayed at the El Mapi Hotel when visiting Machu Picchu in March 2013. The rooms were lovely and the food was good ... We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The hotel grounds were peaceful and the staff was very helpful, we recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for one night after visiting Machu Pichu. Great, modern, clean hotel - although perhaps a few less slogans would go down well (not sure why you need a slogan about Happy Hour on the bathroom mirror...)

It is about a 3 minute walk from the train station. The food was good - although their trout dish for dinner was very salty. Breakfast - not much variety but better than a lot of places in Peru. The bar is great - you could be in London/New York - and great bar staff too (especially one of the guys from Lima whose English was excellent).

The front desk staff were helpful - I needed to print something off to sign and then get it scanned and they were very helpful in arranging this.

Great location - the best hairdryer I have come across in Peruvian hotels - and although it is a very busy hotel - you can tell why (in fact, I think they are going to extend by about another 20 rooms because it is so popular).

The bed was also very comfortable - again, the best we have stayed in during our trip to Peru. Nice linens.

WiFi was free - which is always a plus.

The only missing things? Perhaps a gym/fitness room and perhaps a slightly bigger restaurant because it was heaving at both meal times.

My travel agent recommended this hotel ahead of the Sanctuary Lodge - Orient Express - I can see why. Having seen the Sanctuary Lodge - you would be paying A HUGE AMOUNT for not necessarily having a view of the ruins. And I don't think you could beat the standard of the El Mapi

Very nice eco-conscious hotel with a restaurant (great food) and bar with daily happy hour. There's also some outdoor seating next to both the restaurant and the bar that is nicely adorned with candles in the evening. Restaurant service was great and everyone was friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with warm bathrobes. They will provide extra towels for the hot springs as well. Good recommendation for your stay under the dreamy peaks of Machu Picchu!

You have to remember where you are and why you came...keep that in mind when you check-in and see the room. If this place were in the US it would be equivalent to a Red Roof Inn or some other place alongside an interstate or highway. Hopefully, you will be spending the majority of your time on top of the mountain and not in your room.

We found the hotel to be very attractive, and our room was comfortable. It was nice to have somewhere so clean and cosy to relax in after a long day's exploration. We were pleased to find bathrobes provided. The bathroom was good. The windows had insect screens, so we could get fresh air without mosquitoes. The room was a little small, with nowhere except the bed to sit.

The vegetarian pasta at dinner was rather stodgy and vegetable-free.

quirky...eco friendly...health friendly ( no elevators) well at least i did not see one...so you need to do all the climbing up and down the stairs...

well do ask your travel agent to be doubly sure when you check in and check out...just in case you got a early arrival or a late afternoon check out book in advance....else you will be sitting in its lobby...friendly staff...and you like quotes...check out the bedroom walls and shower curtain...there are pearls of wisdom every every where...right in the middle of the bazaar...has a great bar too... with awesome pisco sour...wonderful food...

its the entire package....go to machu pichu...stay at el mapi...

Room Tip: the mountain view or the street view...both are gorgeous...

We spent three and 1/2 weeks in various parts of Peru and this was easily our favourite hotel. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the rooms spotless and the restaurant very good. The breakfast is especially fine. It's hard to have a bad time when Machu Picchu is just around the corner but the El MaPi definitely made our stay all that much more pleasant. My wife was sick at one point and the staff was very helpful. we weren't leaving until late afternoon but they extended her time in the room until we had to leave without charge. Definitely recommended.
