“Great value and nice remodel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2012

Since being remodeled, this hotel is my go-to option for Aguas Calientes. I would say it's a good solid 4 star hotel with a great location. There are small hot tubs and the bar is cute with great service. This is a great hotel option someone looking for a mid-range hotel without spending the money you would spend at the Sanctuary Lodge or Machu Picchu Pueblo. You are also within a few blocks of some of the best restaurants in town.

This was part of a package so I don't know how much the room was. We had a triple and the room was very large. Bathroom was nice as well. Location was in the heart of town and only a 5 minute walk to the train station. We also had the breakfast buffet which was good. Fresh squeezed orange juice! Had our free Pisco Sour in the bar. Bartenders were nice and made a great drink. I would recommend highly.

This hotel was not perfect, but very close:-
1. We were welcomed at reception with a free room upgrade and 2 free pisco sour coupons for their bar (pretty good start aye?)
2. Our room was modern, clean , comfortable and well-equipped with king-beds. The only minus was that the room safe was too small to fit a laptop.
3. Wi-fi is free.
4. The hotel is in the center of town and close to everything. Most importantly it's just a 10 minute walk to the train and 5 minutes to the MP bus.
4. The evening meals and breakfasts were excellent with plenty of nutritious choices available.

One warning:-
Be careful when paying for your drinks during your pre-paid meals. We ordered our drinks during their "happy hour" when you supposedly get two drinks for the price of one. We gave the drinks waiter a large note to pay for our drinks expecting change. He would obviously not have regarded it a tip as the large note was about 5 times the drinks price.
However for the next 30 minutes the waiter avoided eye contact.
Eventually when we asked for our change he reluctantly gave us an invoice with change from two drinks. When we next questioned the "happy hour" deal he said that it only applied to cocktails.
Moral of story: Take just small notes so that you can pay the exact price.

Other than for that little bit of shiftiness from the drinks waiter we would have ranked this hotel with 5-stars.

Room Tip: I suspect that all rooms are good so no need to be particular.

Great place to stay in Machu Picchu. Highly recommend it. Smack in the center of Aguas Calientes. Walk to the train station, the bus to the lost city and everywhere else. Good choice.

We were greeted at check in like old friends. We were given a free Sour Pisco coupon and we enjoyed that amenity before dinner. The rooms are cleverly done with messages on the phone, shower curtains and on the paper covering the bath soap. They did things responsibly thoughout the hotel. Outside the front door the children of Aguas Calientes paraded to school throughout the day. The shops were better than most small towns. The restaurants were plentiful and very reasonable. One had a 4 for 1 Happy Hour. The food at El MaPi was excellent and served with great presentation. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: No elevators. If needed you can ask for a first floor room.

The hotel is in a good, central location in Aguas Calientes and the staff are really friendly and helpful. When we arrived at the train station they met us to take our luggage while we headed up to Machu Picchu. After trekking around Mach Picchu for the day we were absolutely knackered and the rooms were clean and the bed very comfortable! Food in the restaurant was great and there was a good selection for breakfast. What more could you ask for at one of the wonders of the world?

In summary, great place to stay, good food and comfortable rooms. Peru was the final leg of our South American honeymoon which was all arranged by the amazing Imagine Latin America. The trip to Machu Picchu was the highlight for us as it was somewhere we'd always wanted to visit. Their knowledge of South America, coupled with only booking you into hotels they've stayed in themselves, really made our trip special.

We reached Machu Picchu at 10 AM on 28th Feb12 and the hotel collected our bags from the railway station itself as we boarded our bus to go to Machu Picchu straight away. When we reached the hotel around 4 pm, we were shown a room ( # 311) in the 3rd level of the hotel in the first floor which require you to climb around 60 steps which we found very tiring after doing the up and down in Machu Picchu. But this will be rewarded by the view of great mountains around the place, in the nights, when it was heavily raining, it looked very scary though! The room size is quite ok and all the amenities were working! The bar gives you happy hours and the 2 bartenders spoke good English! Again, next day when we checked out, the hotel delivered our bags at the Railway station. jeagainm,

Room Tip: may be the series of 100s.
