Clean and modern hotel with a really nice staff who met us at the train station. We had beautiful views of the river from our second floor room, and slept peacefully before waking up at 5am to catch the bus to MP. Convenient to everything, especially the busses, and very nice to have a bit of breakfast and coffee before our hike up Huayna Picchu! Recommended.

My review of hotels in Aguas Caliente had not been very positive. The Casa del Sol had been recommended by a neighbour and turned out to be a good choice. It was very central within a few steps of the train station, the bus station for Machu Picchu, shops and cafes. Aguas Caliente was warmer than the other places that we stayed in Peru and our bedroom was warm for the first time (we were there in the middle of winter). The bathroom had the best shower (although the showers in all our hotels had plenty of hot water). We overlooked one of the two rivers to the mountain beyond which was a very nice view (in spite of the litter). The restaurant was good although the service left something to be desired, and it was relatively expensive.

Our one concern was the trains. During the evening, several trains stopped outside the hotel and the whole place shook; they also blew their whistle a number of times to make sure all the pedestrians got off the track. Thankfully, the trains did not run from about 22.00 until about 8.00, so we had a good night’s sleep.

We would recommend this hotel for a night or two when visiting Machu Picchu.

Room tip: Choose a river view and don't worry about the trains at night because they don't run then!

This is a small boutique hotel. Clean, cute with enough amenities. Most travelers only spend one or two nights in Aguas Calientas. That's perfect. Anymore and you will be bored in this little town. Some people say it's very touristy. I found it adorable and having been split between two rivers and the ominous mountains is picturesque.

There are one or two more pricier hotels....Sumaq and Inka del Pueblo. I still vote for Casa Del Sol. LOCATION is the first. You are a 2 minute walk from the train and the bus. Walking distance to everything. The other two hotels are so very far away. There are no cars in this city and it is set on a very steep hill....to get around to the shops and restaurants. They meet you at the train station and you don't have to carry a thing. That felt 5 star!

This hotel does not have A/C in the rooms which I thought they did. I am a big lover of a/c. But I was fine. It gets cool in the evenings and they provided an awesome fan...digital with neat settings. Beds were very comfortable and a beautiful view. Most hotels do not have A/C in the rooms. But this one had it nice in the common areas. Also in the lobby are some really nice ladies bathrooms...even nicer than your room. You may want to visit this.

Breakfast buffet was small but very sufficient. Made to order omelettes.

I see people write rave reviews about eating dinner here. I'm not convinced. We didn't eat dinner here, it just didn't feel special or like a complete restaurant.

Service is good, people are nice. It was quiet when we were there so we had to hunt down the bartender to order a drink to take up to our room.

TV options were good. Wi Fi did not work well...no biggie. Shower was awesome. Ladies, the bathroom is a little dark but who cares when you are about to climb Machu Picchu!!

This is the place!! I'm telling you it's cute, clean and perfect location. I normally stay at the best of the best. I was nicely comfortable here for my journey.

We had a lovely stay at Casa del Sol. The staff are incredibly friendly. The rooms are beautiful and the view is amazing. The sound of the water was a nice break from the somewhat noisy city. The breakfast buffet was delicious and consisted of made to order omelets with a variety of croissants, fruit, fruit juices, and my personal favorite, a dulce de leche spread. (Yum....) The location is perfect, very close to the train station. I would highly recommend, we were very sad to leave!

The hotel was clean and the staff very friendly. I can't give it 5 stars because you cannot flush toilet paper in the toilet. Minimal thing, but for a 5 star hotel, with 5 star rates you should be able to flush toilet paper in the toilet. Also, they have a sign that says you cannot drink the tap water. So my family and I used the complimentary bottles of water to brush our teeth.

Dear Guest,

We really appreciate the time you took for leaving your comments on Trip Advisor. Regarding the toilet, cannot flush in the toilet due an "eco plan".

Thank you very much for your invaluable comments and recommendation.
