“Excellent value for money place in Aguas Calientes”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

The hotel was beyond our expectations. We stayed overnight in a suite room facing the river complete with a jacuzzi! The room was big and comfortable and the river view was beautiful. The 4-course dinner included in the room rate was excellent. The breakfast buffet had many choices and of good quality with many choices. The location of the hotel was also good as it was very near the railway and the bus stop going up to Machu Picchu. Service staff were very polite, friendly and accommodating. The jnternet service was fast. The lobby even had a complimentary coffee and coca tea service which is hard to find in many hotels in Peru.

Room Tip: Get a top floor room with a jacuzzi facing the river

As I always say, you HAVE TO rate the places with regard to their surroundings, comparing like to like. In Mach Picchu (Aguas Calientes) Casa del Sol is one of the best! Service is excellent, location even better (2 minutes from train station and Machu Picchu bus), rooms are immaculate, food is very good...nothing is left to chance. A BIG shout out to Miguel, who loves his job and making the guests as comfortable as possible as well as ALL the girls at the front desk who work hard every day taking care of the guests. The highest of recommendations because of the people (first), service and location...no downsides worth mentioning. You'll pay more here, but it's worth it!

Room Tip: Get a suite - you'll be happy you spent the extra money!

We stayed overnight at this hotel after visiting Machu Pichu. The hotel is small but the room was spacious very clean an comfortable. Our room had a great view of the river that is right behind the hotel. We had one amazing dinner. The food was great and the presentation was first class. The staff was very friendly. We loved or stay.

Delightful boutique hotel. Quite charming location. Railway runs in front of hotel; back of hotel has great river view. Great that dinner and breakfast included in rate. Nothing too ostentatious. Hotel relatively new, completed last winter. Fantastic stay.

Beautiful hotel with modern design yet somehow still Peruvian. Great location near train and bus. Clean rooms, tv, deep tubs, nice linens. Must get room facing river. Lighting is a bit too dark for my taste. Room is stuffy with open windows but no cross breeze. Surprised that dinner was included and it was a creative, elegant, multi-course meal.

This was such a nice hotel. I can't say enough good about it. Not a lot of fuss, and if you like a lot of activity, go somewhere else. But if you are looking for small, beautiful hotel with great service and wonderful food and great rooms, look no further. I almost don't want to write this, because I don't want it to become too popular!

Tanya and David were incredibly helpful in every respect, as well as the other staff. They answered my many questions about visiting Machu Picchu, and they purchased my bus ticket and entrance ticket, as well as set up a guide for me with little advance warning.

The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. Be sure to get one on the river side, rather than the street. I also got a massage at the spa (shiatsu) and it was one of the best ones I have ever had (I used to be a massage therapist). The massage room is right next to the river and the rapids, which was great. Also, the shampoo, massage oil, etc. smells absolutely great. I wish I bought some to bring home! Dinner (4 courses) or lunch is included in your room price, and meals are fantastic, and also right next to the river. Tables, bar and other areas are tastefully decorated with various types of wood, and dinner is served by candle light. They really know how to do it right!

During my stay the electricity went out about 5 times, but it wasn't the hotel's fault, as everything in the area went out. The only thing I would change is that I think the lighting in the bathroom is not very flattering and is a bit dark. Not a huge fan of halogen lights. But I hope to be back again soon. Thanks to all for a great stay!

Room Tip: Get a room on the river side, not the street (train tracks) side.

I stayed at the Casa Del Sol on Sep 5th for 1 night after doing the Inca Trail. I am glad that I did. Definitely a treat. Dinner and breakfast are included. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They even brought my bags to the train station. They asked what time my train leaves and even gave me a late check-out. Thanks, Alcides!

There is limited selection of nice hotels in Aguas Calientes so price point is higher than in Cuzco but definitely worth it.

Room Tip: Get a room by the river.
