We enjoyed our stay very much. Didn't find the negative things I read about to be true, quite the reverse, lovely rooms with incredible views and very helpful service in both the restaurant and from the manager in the office. We had both of the suites and had a lovely large tub in my suite. My friends did say the the water was sketchy in that it went cold to burning hot and back again quite a bit. But the manager was so kind to ask us any of our complaints and we let him know so I am sure they were able to fix that. The restaurant was quite good and the service very good so all in all it was a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Ask for suite 4

We ordered a package deal which included the hotel getting our Machu Picchu tickets, bus tickets, our train tickets from Ollantaytambo, a guide, a box lunch for one day, breakfasts and one dinner at their Tree House Restaurant, plus staying at the hotel. Before we decided to go w/ them, we had trouble w/the online RailPeru site & at one point it seemed a time saver to have the hotel take care of this. They did and it was perfect! Worth every penny!

We requested they meet us at the rail station and they did. They helped w/luggage and scheduled a meeting w/our guide Wagner for that evening. There were 3 of us and we had Wagner to ourselves for 2 hours and he is a terrific and very knowledgable guide. Having this guide to ourselves was fantastic. The dinners at the Tree house were outstanding , the breakfasts were OK and the box lunch was overpriced but good.

The room was modest and small. The bathroom had a large window w/no covering facing a walkway. It was not a main pathway and it didn't lead anywhere but I felt uncomfortable when showering. The bedroom was adequate to our needs. THe walk up the alleyway to the hotel was steep and long. This is not a hotel for people who cannot walk well.

In sum: the service was excellent, the arrangements exactly as promised, the wifi worked, the people at the desk were knowledgeable and the restaurant food was fantastic. The room was modest. Have then take care of all the tickets for the train, for MP, for the guide (fantastic guide and so special having him just to ourselves) was a big help.

In my research, this was the best mid-range option, and after staying there, I was not disappointed. We stayed in Room # 5 (2 floors; 1 queen and 1 double), which had an amazing view. Our room was clean and inviting, and the English-language friendly staff truly went out of their way to accommodate us. From meeting us at the train station upon our arrival, to a staffer meeting us at 4:30 a.m. with freshly squeezed orange juice so that we could be in line by 5:00 a.m. for the first busses to Machu Picchu, helped to make our stay even more enjoyable. They will also hold your luggage while you visit Machu Picchu and will meet you at the train station with them so you don’t have to go back to the hotel before you depart. Whether you stay here or not, have dinner at their on-site restaurant, The Treehouse, which in my opinion, was our best meal in all of Peru. There is also free wi-fi, although we could only catch it in the lobby.

However, this place will undoubtedly not be for everyone. You do feel like you are in a treehouse, and there is quite a lengthy set of stairs to reach this hotel (which does provide for the amazing view). Our room also did not have a heater (although the bed was surprisingly warm and the showers were hot). They also require a deposit at Bank of America, which may pose a problem if you don’t have a Bank of America near you us (we got around this by having a friend make the deposit for us).

However, if you can handle these issues, I highly recommend this lodging during your stay in Aguas Calientes.

Everything about my stay was perfect, from the welcoming hospitality to the comfortable room with private balcony at the edge of a cloud forest. The staff, led by Manager Alcides de la Cruz, was gracious and helpful. Excellent restaurant.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony.

This is a beautiful spot, with a caring, attentive staff that has created a comfortable, environmentally-sensitive spot in what is, for the most part, an overbuilt tourist town. Recycled wood is used in the construction, there's plentiful free filtered water to fill your bottles, and the rooms are clean AND comfortable. Yes, you have to walk up a flight of 50 stairs to get there, but you're well rewarded for the efforts. And the Rupa staff will also meet you at the train or bus station so you don' have to lug your luggage on your own. As an added bonus the adjoining Tree House Resaurant is superb in every way. We had the tasting menu and were blown away.

Room Tip: Make reservations early to get one of the choice rooms w a view, but even if you don't (we didn...

My wife and I just got back from a trip to Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes. We stayed one night at Rupa Wasi in room 5. If you're going to stay here (which isn't a bad idea) I would highly suggest trying to stay in Room 5. It's the highest room offered at the lodge and provides a GREAT view of the nearby mountains and the rest of the town.

The place is decent. Probably overpriced, but that's how everything is in Aguas Calientes. For your money, you will get a nice clean, minimalist room with no frills. We were offered complimentary coca tea and someone was there waiting for us at the train station. It was a great visit.

Room Tip: Try to get Room 5. It has the best view.
