I'm not exactly sure what to say about Gringo Bill's. It's a perfectly fine hotel, no major complaints - it's just eclectic and strange in some ways.
My daughter and I stayed here for two nights recently and we were placed in the upper most room, room 48. Our room had windows on three sides and overlooked the town square. It was a large room and clean and certainly nice enough. But the large amount of windows, which are just wooden windows, made us feel a little insecure at night in that it would not have been difficult for someone to access our room. (and we don't tend to be paranoid).
There are a lot of stairs to climb for any of the rooms numbered greater than 40, so this would be very difficult for people with mobility issues.
The breakfast in the morning was good and they do accomodate for those going up to Machu Picchu early.
We didn't find that the staff were overly friendly. In fact, I asked for a slightly later checkout i.e. 11 am, because my daughter had been sick the night before and they didn't accomodate this at all.
So it's an okay hotel, it will serve you well, but it's not amazing or anything.More
