This hotel is really unique situated in 5 hectares of cloud forest gardens beside the Urubamba river. The large rooms are in the style of Andean village-style cottages. The bed was very large and we had hot water bottles! No TV which was a welcome change. Walk in shower and separate toilet. Public areas are really lovely - log fires and comfy sofas. We were able to use these areas after checkout until we could catch our train. There are guided walks around the gardens for guests. We had breakfast, two lunches and a dinner in the restaurants and the food and service was excellent. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Only a short walk to the bus for Machu Picchu. Would loved to have stayed here longer.

Our best stay in Peru no question. I won't repeat the venue's attributes as many have listed them but its beautiful, unique, utterly silent at night, full of birds in the incredibke gardens and has two wonderful food venues. The absolute highlight was the offer of returning to the hotel post check out (and an arduous Huanya Picchu climb) to be able to shower below the cafe with fresh towels and change into clean clothes. It was magic. Thank you Inkaterra. We then enjoyed another wonderful lunch in the cafe and relaxed in the soothing lounge before our return afternoon train. I've never had such service and the hotel management must be congratulated. We also loved the outdoor spa pools for a rest after our hikes on day one. And unlike some other posters here, we had no lost luggage issues from leaving it with the porter at the railway station or storage for our second day at Machu Picchu. I have nothing but praise (well OK. The bathroom's a bit small!!) but this is the top pick for Machu Picchu visitors.

We were upgraded to this hotel by our travel company Peru for Less and our stay here was truly the icing on the cake as far as our Machu Picchu visit went. Beautiful gardens and surrounds. Tranquil and restful rooms. Wonderful restaurant. Guided tour to see spectacled bear rescues. We wished we could have spent a few more days there. They even delivered our luggage to the train station for us at the end of the day.

We stayed 2 nights at the Inkaterra La Casona in Cusco which we loved, before arriving at the Machu Picchu Pueblo so our expectations were very high.

We had booked a suite for two nights at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo for $1037 USD per night ($2074 total), including breakfast and dinner. We noticed right away there was a huge difference in attitude and service between La Casona and this hotel; we were treated like just "another bum in a bed". Our room was OK, definitely tired and worn but acceptable. What wasn't acceptable was the fact that around 4pm the shower filled up with these horrible bugs due to the fact there is a gap between the glass door and the outdoor shower which has no seal. This could easily be remedied. At 5pm we were offered new towels from a guy at the door holding a basket who handed us 2 chocolates, but no one ever came to turn down our room. Note that in the VIP treatment of the suite you are to receive 3 turn down services a day (something they advertise but don't do). When we returned from dinner the shower and bathroom had 23 of these bugs crawling around. Now I know why they give you these uncomfortable rubber "slippers", it's to stomp out the bugs. The next day our shower filled up again with these bugs and I insisted they provide us with our turn down service at which time they did sweep up these nasty pests. The next morning, even after using insect repellent and sleeping in fear of what was crawling on me I awoke to find bites on my fingers and the bottom of my feet. These did not appear to be mosquito bites, they were in a linier pattern and I am not certain what bit me, but they itched like mad.

Regarding the food, breakfast was OK, nothing special and service was horrible. Dinner on the other hand was Terrible. The first night my pork was so rancid I took one bite and left the rest, nobody ever asked why my dinner was left uneaten, they just cleared my place....again, you are just another "bum in a bed", the food was nicely presented but truly horrible, the service was typical tourist trap attitude.

The unfortunate fact is, you are a captive audience if you want to stay close to Machu Picchu and the hotels know it. There are few choices and you will pay dearly. Perhaps their less expensive rooms would be fine, I don't know. All I know is for $1037 per night I expect to at least be bug free and have an edible meal. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: do not waste your money on a suite

We stayed here 2 and loved it here!!!!!

The hotel is set in a beautiful nature reserve with orchids and humming birds everywhere. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and we slept really well in the comfortable beds.

The service was exceptional.

Breakfast and Dinner at the restaurant was excellent; enjoyed every meal.

The hotel offers different Excursions of nature walks, but sorry to say we didn't have time to do any of them, due to other activities. Would of loved to see the Orchids.

We did however use the Spa and loved it. The message after climbing all those stairs was perfect!! I felt great after visiting the Spa.

The grounds are nicely laid out with a jungle feeling and covered in Bird of paradise flowers.

During our stay, we even saved a Hummingbird. It was stuck in the lobby, so we told one of the employees about it. They had to get a ladder and a butterfly net to rescue it.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

The hotel is a beautiful nature reserve. They organize evening activities such as twilight walk, and also morning orchid and herbs garden tours. Their spa is excellent with a very unique sauna hat. The restaurant is high class, and breakfast is wonderful as well. Great place to stay and relax after Machu Picchu experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 42, it is close to the spa. A very big and comfortable room, I recommend.

We stayed here from 10/6/13 – 10/7/13 and what an unforgettable experience it was. This hotel is located on 12 private acres in the cloud forest, with many species of orchids butterflies and birds. The rooms are rustic Andean village stone casitas. There are fireplaces in each casita and it is absolutely wonderful to fall asleep to the crackling of a fire. The rooms are simply decorated but wonderfully unique, and very clean.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. There are 2 spring pools on the property but the water was barely warm and it was too cold to try them out. The hotel offers different types of guided educational excursions such as s bird watching and nature walks.
The hotel rate includes a welcome pisco sour drinks and a 3-course a-la carte dinner. The food and service were impeccable. The bar and restaurant are were both very intimate and inviting.
The breakfast selection and service was wonderful as well. This hotel price is on higher end (rates starting at $550 a night) but it is a truly unique, one of a kind experience.
