“Absolute best Machu Picchu Experience”
Reviewed July 12, 2011

Such an amazing hotel! We started off our trip in MP for 3 days and stayed at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo and couldn't have been happier. First someone met us at the train to walk us to the hotel and carry our bags. Check-in was a breeze and they brought us right to our room after making us some fresh Iced coca tea. We went on one of the free nnature walks around the grounds with the hotel guides and they showed us all of the different kinds of orchids that grow on the grounds as well as the different brightly colored finches and hummingbirds. The meals at the restaurant were absolutely amazing, and thats coming from a NYC native who is use to impeccible food. We had brakfast and dinner each day and couldn't have been happier. We also booked a guide for Machu Picchu at the eco center who was fantastic. She was a wealth of knowledge and made the walk around the ruins infinitely better. The rooms were great and we didnt have any problems. The staff came by each night and made a fire in the fireplace and put hot water bottles in the bed for us to come back to. The spa was a dream and quite reasonably priced as well. I got a wonderful massage and my wife got a coca leaf body wrap that she still raves about months later. Also the free wifi and computers were pretty good considering you are in the middle of nowhere. Overall it was one of our favorite places we've been to and we'd definitely come back.

If you are going to Machu Picchu and want to spoil yourself, look no further than the Inkaterra Suite at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.

The private outdoor inground hot tub was a perfect ending to climbing around Machu Picchu. Follow that up with the outdoor Inka shower and the over-sized lounge and you will be transported to nirvana. The exotic birds stopping by along with the view of the steep. lush Andean mountainside are just an added bonus...and that's just the outside of the suite.

Inside the suite you will find a split-level, with the bedroom / bathroom above the over-sized dining / living area complete with a wood-burning fireplace over-looking the lush outside rain forest.

All this for less than $1k per night, which is about what you would pay to stay in a room a third the size at the MP Sanctuary at the entrance of Machu Picchu. It's worth the bus ride to stay down below as this was the finest room we've ever stayed in.

Gorgeous grounds, convenient location (walking distance to train station and Machu PIcchu bus). Large room, very modern large bathroom with rainshower! Comfortable bed, lots of pillows. Free internet workstations. Excellent breakfast (try the quinoa pancakes, made to order) and dinner - professinal service. There was more here than we had time for, since, of course, the purpose of the visit was Machu Picchu (which is why there is no TV!)

We stayed only one night at the Inkaterra but wished that we had stayed for at least a couple more days. The services, from the front desk, the concierge and the restaurant was very good - professional yet very friendly. The room was lovely, and although it was quite cold at night, there was a real fire in our rooms and they even provided hot water bottles! The surroundings are unique and among the nicest that we have ever stayed in - a real tropical jungle, with hummingbirds and other bird species constantly flying around. They also have a wonderful collection of orchids in the grounds. The locatioin of the hotel is just about on top of the Urumba river and from the restaurant you can watch the river below - magical.

I just stayed here this week for one night, what a beautiful place! Staff service was excellent and dinner was first class. I didn't have too much time to explore all the grounds and orchids and birds but from what I saw it was breathtaking. It's located away from the main section in town but it's a short 3 minute walk. Would definitely stay here again.

We checked in the Inkaterra after 4 days on the Inca Trail looking for some relaxation and pampering. The hotel facilities were beautiful and welcome change to the overly touristy town of aguas calientes. We stayed in a Superior Deluxe room and it was beautiful, great fireplace and lots of warm/cozy touches.

We had appointments at the spa for the Andean Sauna and a massage, both were great.

Our plan came with dinner, breakfast and lunch. We ate dinner & lunch at the Cafe Inkaterra....both times the food/wine were excellent but the service was horrible. At lunch we almost missed our train because it took over 2 hours to eat lunch.

The two main problems with the hotel during our stay was the amount of groups with children. On one night we wanted to use the mineral pools to soak after our trek...but it was nearly impossible because there were 20 young and teenaged children running around and jumping in and out of the pools with no supervision and no one from the hotel ever told them to quiet down. That happened the following morning as well...it made the hotel very unenjoyable. Also the pool was dirty with leaves and debris, and no one every cleaned it even after we told the front desk.

Bottom Line - there aren't many options in Aguas Calientes and this is the best hotel....Sanctuary isn't worth it.....so just hope for better service and no groups of kids and your stay has potential as the property and rooms are gorgeous.

Room Tip: all rooms are great but some require longer walks.
