Hostal Rumi Llaqta

They were unable to locate my reservation, even though I booked two rooms for 4 persons in advance through Hotelsone.com. When I showed my confirmation emails with reservation number and everything, they kept saying "we don't have your reservation." They only could give us one small room with four beds and charged the same price. There are so many pedestrians walking by the hotel and noises all night keep all of us unable to sleep. When I ask for a remote control for the television, they said they didn't have it and couldn't do anything about it. The breakfast is terrible and the room stinks. There's nothing good to say about this place. Stay out of it!

This place was a little unusual from the start. Upon our arrival the door was wide open and we had access to any room in the building as no one was at the desk (and all the keys were there in plain sight) and no one came when we ran the bell and waited for 10 minutes. After waiting we then checked each floor of the hostel shouting "hello?" until we heard someone far off say “just a minute." Five minutes later when we started wondering if that voice wasn't in this building and began calling again a woman popped out of one of the rooms in a towel asking what we needed. Obviously we had been waiting to check in for over 20 minutes now with no one in sight, so her response seemed strange (along with the fact that she was in a towel). She said to give her a minute and went back in the room to change.

Someone else arrived from outside at the same time the previously towel-clad woman finally came to help us after waiting almost 30 minutes. And everyone was completely unapologetic to the fact we were sitting around waiting for a room in an unsecured hostel after walking through town with our stuff from our train ride exhausted.

In non-service related news, the place is fairly cute and clean with nice views of the river and mountain (though probably every place in town has good views). The hot water is spotty and it seemed they had to turn it on every time we wanted to shower (they didn't mention this and they probably should have so we could've just known from the beginning instead of having to ask each time it wasn’t working).

As mentioned, the main problem we noticed was that someone could have easily come and stolen a bunch of stuff from any guest here because the place was unstaffed and unsecured for such an unusually large period of time. (I should say that we were told Aguas Calientes is super safe because the town is so small, but still...).

One nice thing -- we went to Machu Picchu early in the morning and check-out time was 9 or 10am, but they said we could pay a little more and come back after and check out at 2pm. Not a bad deal. Better than paying for a whole extra night.

I stayed there in Apr 2012 for a short night in the hostel.
Our trained arrived AC at around 9pm. We arranged free pick-up and the lady was punctual.
The room was very basic and looked like it needed to be renovated. It didn't look comfortable. We're glad that we're just staying for several hours. The bathroom had a very big open window without any frame or glass or curtain. We needed to use a towel to cover it up. The water was hot enough.
We requested for early breakfast at 5am and it was there as promised.
Overall speaking, if you're just staying for a short sleep, it's OK. If you'd stay for a bit longer, I'd suggest you to look for another one.

Pros: The people who worked there were polite and it was a good location. Close to the Machu Picchu Bus Stop and the train station.

Cons: Very Overpriced for what you get. The room was very small, noisy, and cramped. We stayed for two nights (two too many). They speak almost no english. Their credit card machine did not work, so we had to pay cash. One of the bed's had a dirty sheet. The walls in the room needed paint. There was a open hole for a window in the bathroom. The pillows were as thin as a towel. Our toilet overflowed after the first time we used it. They served no breakfast. The bath towels were the size of hand towels and as thin as toilet paper. The rooms were depressing. They needed paint and art work or something on the walls. They was no heat or a/c. Honestly, we could not wait to check out.

I would only stay here if everything else was filled in your price range and you are on an extremely tight budget

We were told that the Continental breakfast included eggs, and assumed some fruit or sides. The morning we left for Machu Picchu, she had cold bread and tea ready for us and then said that the stores were closed and she was out of eggs and no fruit or other food. No fun to hike for 12 hours with a peice of toast for breakfast. Very disappointing. The next morning we wanted our eggs! When we asked for them she tried to charge us 5 soles, but we argued that and also ordered some hard boiled to go becuase we felt entirely scammed. Shower had fluctuating hot water but the sink does not, just cold. No heater in the room and not very comfortable. Spoke little English. It is right next to a construction sight at the moment that starts making noise at 7 am. No wifi or computer. $50 a night...we checked much nicer hotels down the street for $40 with a full breakfast and wifi, much cleaner and more hospitable. Go anywhere else and you will probably be happier than we were.

Room Tip: If you travel in off season, book your room when you get there! Look at it first and you will someti...
