...i agree with the other reviews - this place deserves a high rating. We stayed for 3 nights - although we thought we would get a double bed configuration - we got 2 singles instead - the beds were super comfortable and warm, the bathroom had a fabulous shower with instant hot water, the overall room was very clean.

We did have breakfast on one of the mornings (they will ask you each day what time you want breakfast, which 4.30 to 8.30am) and to be honest, it was pretty ordinary. Hollow bread rolls, butter, jam, overly sweet juice, fried eggs, which could have been cooked a lot longer and no seasoning.. go elsewhere if you can..

Overall, great value for money and located very close to the train station...

Arrived late but comfy bed to fall into and breakfast from 4.30am. Tea, cafe, rolls and jam, juice and eggs to start the day. Room was spacious, clean and wifi worked on 2nd floor. Hot water was strong. $30 for 1 night. Turn right as soon as you exit train station (along a little market alley). Take first right onto street that runs parallel to train platform. 5th street on your left which is sign posted and is pretty much at the Cusco end of the platform as you look to your right. Hostel is 20 meters up on the left of Calle Chaska Tika. Stored backpack while at MP and also had shower for $4 when I got back to pick up bag. For bus to MP right out of the door, right back along same street that is parallel to platform and follow it to the end and then turn left down the hill where all the buses are lined up. Need to buy a $17 return ticket from ticket office (not bus) and don't forget your passport.

receptionist very friendly, luggage taken to room, hot water, didnt have time to check out the wifi. electricity plug next to bedside table. Breakfast was good, choice of fried or scrambled eggs given, cooked on the spot so hot organic eggs. Bread not stale, coffee good as long as you not expecting starbucks/nescafe tasting coffee. Free maps available. Lent me umbrella, someone slept on the sofa in reception waiting for me as I ventured out until a bit late in the evening. Accepts soles or us dollars, didnt ask about credit card. Luggage looked after safely post check out until evening. Would recommend.

Room Tip: if you will struggle with the stairs ask for one near the ground floor

Just spend 2 nights in Aguas Calientes

Due to low season, many places do some maintenance works
as our recommended Hostal was closed
we walked down to road, checked few and found Sol del Oro
we asked for rate, checked the room, verified Wifi whihc was working at lobby
and got the price down

• Hostel staff
Friendly and try their best with English ...
now up to you to try your Broken Spanish
it worked fine with us

• Location
Turn right out of train station
Turn right again following rail track
2nd on your left

• The room
we stayed In the Room 201.. for 2 reasons
1- The room does not face the street which meant less noise
Clean , Spacious enough for our Needs and quiet
from 10 PM to 3 ~ 4 AM ... when all wake up getting ready for M.P visit

2 - Wifi was working fast ..in that room ... others rooms had issues
Note : Internet is Off at 10 PM

• BreakFast
Instant coffee or/and choices of Tea
Bread , butter and Jam

Bottom Line :
Did exactly what we expected ... Check it out !

Room Tip: the Room 201 had better WifI connection however does have an Outside window but Incourt one

I will try to be fair. The communication with the hostel was terrible. I tried to book my stay by email but within 3 days did not recieve any answer so I called. Good thing I speak spanish. I insisted through email because I wanted some sort of confirmation until a week later I got one. Later I found out that the owner does not check her email often and is never physically in the hostel. She is the only person who has seen the web page and the prices advertized. I was recieved at the train station with a sign and the hostel is an OK walking distance from the station. It is very clean and the women who run it are very helpful and nice. Rooms are great and bathrooms are new and clean. Cable TV, comfortable bed. Hot water is sometimes an issue. If you run out, the problem is that the heater to your room is out of gas and needs to be replaced. Breakfast is standard for hostels in Peru. Pita bread, jam, butter, egg, juice and terrible coffee or tea. Check out was an issue. They wanted to charge me more than what their web page advertized ($25 for a single). They called the owner and she asked for proof. This is where her own email confirmation came in handy. Still recommend with some caution.

Sol de Oro was one of the cleanest inexpensive places I stayed during my travels in Peru. The staff was friendly and the showers had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was basic and the staff was very friendly. Recommended.

It was a nice surprise as we were met at the station by a woman( with our names on a board )which was helpful as it saved us having to navigate our way, and the hostel was about 5-7 minutes walk away.

Rooms:
We had booked through Hostelworld .com so probably given the better room with windows in bedroom and bathroom at far end of corridor, top floor, overlooking the street at the front.
We noticed that the other rooms seemed not have windows,so, the doors were left open ,if not occupied, to be aired.
Accommodation on two floors. No lifts and steepish wooden stairs especially to top floor.
We paid 50 Peruvian soles per person per night.

Yes, slightly noisy in the evening from the building site across the road but not disturbingly so, but having ear plugs help anyway.
Twin bedded ensuite. Slightly cramped. Basic. Comfortable beds.
A wardrobe and bedside lockers for adequate storage.
Wall mounted lamp over each bed.
Front door locked at all times and entry gained by ringing door bell.

WiFi available but weak and frequently temperamental- really bad after 10pm when it doesn't work at all- perhaps turned off ?

Showers: Hot water didn't run out, good pressure and a good shower head. Spacious shower area.

Breakfast : Early breakfast available from 4.30am albeit awful.
STALE CRAPPY arid dry white bread rolls. Fruit flavoured sugared drink ( yuk), jam and bread. No fruit.
Awful coffee . Coca tea available.

We brought our own food and fruits from Ollantaytambo to suffice us for breakfast and for Machu Pichu the next day.

People in the hostel do not speak or understand English but one can communicate with phrase book and gestures to get basic issues sorted out.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the front of hostel- certainly the top floor one that we had had windows i...
