“Poorly maintained, poor value for the money”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

We were dismayed by how dirty this hotel was. Smudge marks on the doors, dirt stains in the bathrooms, poor construction, and faulty maintenance. Small things showed a lack of quality control. Missing light bulbs; missing switch plates on electrical outlets; a general shabbiness all around. The place badly needs a good once over. Other reviews said desk staff spoke good English. My pigeon Spanish had to suffice when questions in English were met with blank stares. This is a small city full of hotels. Look around. You can do much much better.

After reading the reviews I was afraid of how the hotel was going to be, specially that we
were going to stay for a few nights here during the end of June.
The hotel was fine and the room was nice and big.
It is true that you have to go up to get there but then you are further from the crowds and that is what you want if you come all the way to Aguas Calientes.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating and yes there was no elevator but that is
probably the only thing that the hotel lacks.
I've stayed in 4 and 5 stars hotels around the world and this is not but for Aguas Calientes
standards and price it was very good.

The hotel is up the hill from the train station and while it isn't a terrible walk, it can get long if you are lugging bags. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One big problem which is not necessarily the fault of the hotel is there are barking dogs in the adjoining plaza that can get going throughout the night. In addition the nearby buildings are close together so it can get noisy depending on where your room windows are facing. The breakfast was fine and dinner was good as well.

We stayed two nights here so we could enjoy Machupicchu longer. The area does not have much to choose from in places to stay. It was clean, more or less. Considering the entire town it was good. By American standards it was lacking. We were not sad to leave the place. It is a long walk up hill to the location. It is $205 a night and up. We had been staying in 5 star hotels so this was kind of a shock. There is no elevator but i doubt any hotel in that town had any. The breakfast was good and the dinner was great.

They have no elevator, and we stayed on the 3rd floor overlooking the small plaza in front. It was a very nice hotel but very over priced. It's also a long walk up a small street from the main town's center.

Room Tip: Don't stay on a high floor if you have a lot of luggage, no elevators.

My mother and I stayed here a few weeks ago.. We actually hadn't originally made a reservation here, but when something went wrong with our reservation at a nearby hotel, they moved us to this one for free. As we walked in the door, we thought we had gotten really lucky--this place was more expensive, so it seemed like a free upgrade! The lobby looked very nice, for sure. HOWEVER, the room was a big disappointment. It was perfectly clean, but the place looked like it had been slapped together.

The door to our room was little more than a piece of plywood. The lock did not seem secure at all.

The bathroom was just weird.. the tub was raised 2-3 feet off the ground, and it felt like you were going to fall through it while standing in the shower. Hard to describe, but trust me, it felt very cheap.

Our room faced the square outside, and there was a huge amount of noise from nearby bars and barking dogs all through the night.. not exactly ideal since we were getting up at 4:30am in order to catch the first bus to Machu Picchu.

Finally, the complimentary breakfast in the morning left much to be desired. The first bus for Machu Picchu leaves at 5:30am, yet they were running very behind getting food out on the buffet table. There were supposed to be eggs and pancakes, but all we got was some fruit and rolls before we had to leave. Also, checking out was a nightmare. It took the girl working at the counter a good 20 minutes to figure out how to run my credit card. I actually had to just grab a roll on the way out the door because after that, I didn't have time to sit down and eat.

All I can say is that I'm VERY glad I didn't have to pay the full price to stay here.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the main square outside. Very noisy!

It's not an easy hotel to get to especially if you have a lot of luggage. Its quite a steep walk through a market, (it seems to me that most stations in Peru seem to exit through a market!). The path to the hotel probably is about 10 mins walk but it seems longer after a hard day. We were met at the station and assisted tothe hotel. Aguas Calientes has virtually no traffic which is quite a nice thing but if you have problems walking the steep roads could be difficult especiually as taxis are not really an option!
Its a good base to explore Machu Picchu from, its another short walk to the bus station where you get a bus to Machu Picchu. The road up to MP is very steep and quite long only the dedicated walkers would consider not using the bus, there is no alternative!
The hotel is very modern, we had a lovely big spacious room overlooking the square infront of the hotel.
Breakfast with a good choice of fruit is served in the hotel foyer.
We found the staff very helpful and friendly.
