“Food was ok, beware of the scam tax”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2014 via mobile

We didnt read reviews of this place until after we had entered and logged onto their wifi which made us very worried. The food wasnt horrendous but we wouldnt go back, the pizza was a bit of cardboard with just cheese and minimal amounts of salami with no tomato base sauce. Yes they tried to add on 30% tax but we argued and they waved it very fast without arguing

“Be warned: terrible food and scam restaurant, they try to still money from you by adding surcharges to your bill!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014 via mobile

We went on August 5 to this restaurant and were very disappointed with the food, very salty soups, stakes and pasta. We did not eat such a bad food and asked for the bill. The amount to pay was not right and after checking the amounts we discover that we have been overcharged with 53 soles. Also for 4 minuscules bad limonades we where charged 70 soles. The waiter said that the 53 soles were for service charges and corrected the limonades price for 40 soles then for 20 soles! She agreed to cut the 53 soles charge only after we said we wilk go to the police with the bill. She crumpled and then tore the bill and refused to give it to us. The bill was a fake and she was afraid the police will know what they do. She gave us a correct bill afterwards. We have never seen such a scam in Peru until know.
Do not go to this restaurant. Avoid at all costs, the food is terrible!

“Terrible Pisco Sour ”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2014 via mobile

Stopped for a drink. The Pisco Sour was terrible and the white wine warm and not tasty. Hot chocolate was OK. Price was high as in all places in Agues Calentes.

“Avoid at all cost, they will rip you off”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

I should have checked TA upfront as I usally do, but since we had only 90min to spend in Aqua Calientes before catching the train back, and no access to free wifi, I didn't bother.
All you read is 100% true: mediocre food: they can't even bake a pizza, below average service, and then the scam with the bill. In my case they claimed a 20% extra for service, city tax and whatever. The story went from waiters that don't get paid to a special city tax for foreigners.
It's a shame for the rest of Peru that is full of honest, friendly people.
Conclusion: write don't EL TUNQUI on a piece of paper before going to Aqua Calientes and check before you're being dragged in to a pizza or bar place ....

“Agreed: Dishonest, slimy scammers with mediocre food and bad service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

Took more than an hour to have my FIRST drink served... quinoa risotto was full of tiny rocks or large sand grains (which I understand happens with quinoa, but come on, this was every single bite made me fear the integrity of my teeth)... the restaurant has all the credit card logos clearly displayed on the door and yet tries to charge you a 10 percent credit card usage fee if you don't pay in cash (don't let them!)... bill is not itemized, plus they slap a surprise 20 percent "service charge" onto the bill, claiming it's town policy everywhere, and THEN the waitress came and whispered to us that service (tip) wasn't included, basically asking us for a tip ON TOP OF the surprise 20 percent surcharge. I even had to pay for the quinoa risotto that was full of rocks. Crappy music that was too loud, service that was abysmally slow and inattentive... This place has one goal and one goal only: gouge the foreign tourists' wallets for all they can. After all this B.S., a very mediocre dinner for two here was SIXTY FIVE STINKIN DOLLARS. Avoid, avoid.
