Stayed here one night after our Inca Trail trek. A lovely large room and bathroom. Just what we needed. It was in a good location for the station and to explore the town. We were on the river side so had no noise issues.

The hotel is lovely, and we were happy with our room (we requested a view of the river). The shower was fantastic, and the welcome treat was a nice surprise. However, there were some issues that prevent this from getting 5 stars. First off, they limit you to 2 bottles of free water and do not provide any other method of filtered water. I brought a reusable water bottle and would have appreciated being able to fill it instead of continuously buying plastic ones. Also, they say breakfast starts at 4:30, but both days we stayed there, it was late. This is a big issue if you're trying to get in line for the first buses and the food isn't all out until 4:45. They also advertised boxed lunches but then told us they weren't available during our stay (this would have impacted our decision to stay there).

It'd also be nice if the hotel reception was more proactive with providing travelers with information. When we arrived tired the evening before our first day in MP, we asked about getting in line. They weren't very helpful in giving us a sense of timing, and they didn't say anything about us needing to go back out and buy a bus ticket/get a confirmed entry ticket. For the higher price here than some other hotels, I would have expected more of that proactive service.

We stayed in June and had a twin room on the railway tracks side of the hotel (they don't run at night, but they're right next to the hotel and will wake you up in the morning).

Some things about the hotel were great: they were pro-active in emailing us for our train time and someone was there waiting to collect us and walk us to the hotel, the location is great for the bus / centre of town, staff were lovely, and the crazy spa tub was pretty cool.
Not so good were the early morning trains, lack of heating when it's so cold at night (there's a fireplace you can ask them to light, but it's pure show, no heat comes from those flames), and the fact the wifi somehow stopped working exactly at the door to the room (we were on the 3rd floor). The breakfast area was also very cold, but that was the case everywhere we stayed. No eggs was disappointing.

I'll be honest, I was least looking forward to this hotel based on the "no frills" description in the Fodor's travel guide, but it was one of my favorites in my 2 week trip in Peru! (and it was one of the least expensive!)

From the moment we arrived, you could see the charm in this hotel and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. We got a GREAT RATE (less than $200/night) so typically that means a crappy room. Nope - we got a KING bed (even though the website said "double") with a working fireplace, a huuuuuge private soaking jacuzzi tub, separate shower, sitting area and huge window overlooking the Urubamba river. It was our 10th anniversary, so the hotel had arranged all of our towels into swans and hearts and covered the bed with real rose petals and candy. Later they brought us a complimentary bottle of (good) chilled champagne. At night, they line the stairs with candles and there are candles in the room too to light for good ambiance. Definitely request a room on the river side of the hotel as it is right on the train tracks, but we didn't hear any train noise at all. I would totally stay here again!

(Note - stairs only, no AC, but plenty comfortable with balcony doors opened.)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor (if you can walk the stairs) overlooking the river.

When the hotel we were originally scheduled to stay at turned out to be less than adequate (noise & poor service), we found the Hatun Inti Boutique Machupicchu to be a wonderful respite following a long and wonderful day at Machu Picchu! The room was immaculate, the service was second to none, the breakfast was delicious, and when we returned searching for my wife's misplaced passport- the staff had located it behind the bed in the room. All in all, this was a great visit, and we would return if given the chance!
