“Nice hotel convenient to Machu Picchu”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

We booked Hatun Inti because we wanted to be able to get to Machu Picchu before the crowds arrived. At first blush, I thought the hotel was expensive but I wanted to be sure of a place to stay. I was pleased to learn that the price included a very good fixed price dinner at the restaurant down the street, and an excellent breakfast, which, combined, made this a better value. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very well appointed and included luxuries such as a jacuzzi which, while our stay was short, made this even more appealing. The beds were comfortable.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of May. It was our overnight stay after doing a one day hike on the Inca Trail. After about 6 hours of hiking, we arrived at the hotel. Check-in was fine and the room was clean.

When I went to take a shower for dinner, I found that there was no hot water in the room. We tried running the water for 20 minutes. We notified the front desk and they sent someone to the room. The person spent 30 minutes running the water without success. After an hour of waiting for the person to come back, we tried it again. There was hot water for 2 minutes and then back to cold. Upon leaving for dinner we notified the front desk again. No hot water when we returned. The next morning we hoped for the best, but again there was no hot water.

When we met with our tour guide, we told him of the issue. He notified his office and they spoke with the hotel. The only compensation they offered for the inconvenience was a free lunch at a bad restaurant.

This is not a cheap hotel and would expect to be able to take a hot shower after a long day of hiking. Spend your money elsewhere.

This hotel looks like nothing from the outside, but inside it is first class. It has a very friendly and helpful staff. It has an elevator which takes you to very large well furnished rooms. The recently remodeled bathroom has a huge jacuzzi and separate shower. Breakfast was excellent also. This hotel is a great value. We would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Even though the river is noisy, it lulls you to sleep.

Our one night stay at Hatun Inti was extremely comfortable. As gay travelers, we were greeted with respect and kindness. Our room was huge, had a great jacuzzi bathtub, and a shower (with a rainshower head) that had the most consistent heat while in Peru.

The hotel is literally a five minute walk from the train station and two minutes away from the buses to Machu Picchu. I booked a room through booking.com, but they didn't have our name in the reservation book. After a quick call to the main office, and a complimentary plate of cookies, we were set.

Our room on the 4th floor was next to the river, which, as someone mentioned before, could be loud to some; however, we found it to be soothing since it was a constant drone (think of a loud white noise machine).

The staff was very friendly - if not eager to please. We declined the dinner that was included (after reading previous reviews), which the staff seemed somewhat disappointed. They were happy to store our luggage for us when we spent the day in Machu Picchu.

Not too sure how new the hotel is, but it was somewhat funny to see that the beautifully tiled walls in the bathroom still had numbers in pencil on them from when it was constructed. Otherwise, Hatun Inti is a pleasant and clean place to stay. Must use the jacuzzi!

Room Tip: Ask to be put in a room along the river if you don't mind white noise, otherwise you'll be o...

We stayed at the Hatun Inti for two days. Our room was overlooking the Urubamba river and had a jacuzzi as well. It was very good to come back to a clean and relaxing hotel after a busy and tiring day hiking Mt. Machu Picchu. The white noise created by the river really helps with sleep, once you get used to it..in a few minutes. It is very conveniently located from the bus stop that takes you to Machu Picchu. In all, we had a very memorable stay at Hatun Inti and would recommend it highly!!

The staff is very accommodating. The space is clean, beautiful, very conveniently located. And major bonus points that someone from the hotel was waiting for us AT&T the train station to take us to the hotel. It is about 1.5blocks from train, 2 blocks to get tickets for Machu Picchu and half a block from where you catch the bus. The river is so beautiful and there is a wood burning fire place.

My boyfriend almost died from the free food. He was very sick front he free dinner and the breakfast is awful, the coffee is terrible. Also be aware when you are offered free meals with any hotel they charge a premium for drinks, so food may be 20 soles and every drink is 25 soles. This seems to be the norm and it also does not include water. Also the coffee is instant. Always.

Overall we felt it was worth it. It's not perfect but we are also quite picky about food and such. It felt very clean and boutique which I love.

Room Tip: We like the jacuzzi facing the river so booked 201. Be aware that tub takes 30 min to fill.

When we arrived at the hotel after a day up on Macchu Picchu (unforgettable and amazing!) it was about 2pm, but clearly most of the rooms were not ready. There were piles of laundry all around the hotel. We were shown to our room, which was situated alongside the thunderous Urubamba river, and it was spacious and clean, with modern facilities and a lovely spa bath and shower.

Initially we didn't think the river would be a problem, but even with earplugs we had a very disturbed night. On reflection, we should have asked for a room facing the road. I don't think you could ever obliterate the noise of the river completely......it is everywhere, but if you're a light sleeper, ask for a front facing room.

Breakfast was adequate (nothing special), in the breakfast room, which had a large screen TV on most of the time - I imagine more for the benefit of the staff than the guests. Unlike other reviewers, we certainly weren't offered any welcome pack of snacks or fruit. We chose to swap our inclusive 'dinner' (at Toto's) for the buffet lunch the following day, and we enjoyed it very much - great choice.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, ask for a front facing room (opposite side to the river)
