Pirwa Hostel Machu Picchu
Reviewed May 24, 2014

We stayed here for one night and were pleased with location although it is up the hill so a bit of a mission with bags and altitude issues! The hostel was nice, welcoming but smelt of cooking- a family live in the building and were doing their own business so it wasnt a great smell. The room we stayed in looked over the central courtyard of the building and we had no privacy as such apart from when you closed curtains. We also had issues sleeping as there was a window above the door that had no curtains so the light from outside was still bright. The bathroom was very mouldy and so it was a bit disappointing.

I stayed at the hostel for 1 night before waking up at 4.00am to go to Machu Picchu. I stayed in a private room with bathroom.
As the title says, it serves its purpose. It is an OK option if you need to stay a night in aguas calientes and are on a budget. I would still suggest that you'd try another hostel as the beds were dusty which made it hard to breathe at night.
On the plus side, they know their clientele since you have breakfast served at 4.30am. It is nothing grandiose, but at least you can eat something before going on top of machu picchu.
The staff was nice and helpful!

If u r like most of the travelers that go to Aguas Calientes to spend the night coz u r going up the Machu/Wayna/ Huchuy Picchu on the next morning: its perfect for u! U get a good, quiet sleep, totally necessary for THE big day. Nothing else matters ;) staff is friendly. Brekkies are horrible.

I stayed only one night (during the low season) but I really enjoyed this short stay there. The bedrooms are basics but quite comfortable and very clean (so as the bathrooms). Staff member are nice and gives you a lot of information, really appreciated. It's a little bit far from the train station but the city is so small that you maybe have to walk 5 / 10 minutes max to reach it. Good to know : the breakfast starts from 4.30 am ! Really appreciated if you want to see the Machu Picchu at the sunrise !

quiet and welcoming standard breakfast delivered at 4am, so you can head early on the bus to Machu Picchu beds comfortable with clean rooms and more important clean toilets and showers. Great staging post for Machu Picchu

Room Tip: although a dorm bed my room was separate from the other rooms felt safe too

We went here based on a recommendation from the Lonely Planet. I don’t usually stay in hostels but we got a private room with bathroom so thought we’d give it a go. The room was clean-ish but the bed spread was old and grotty. There was no hot water, at all, and the breakfast was not so good. From someone who doesn't usually do hostels, my recommendation would be to spend another $20 and stay somewhere semi-decent.
