Needed a bed for the night in downtown Lagos and a friend recommended the Scarlet Lodge. Very central location on VI close to many of the expat hangouts. There is no sign outside and the building itself is rather strange, if not without charm. Some mock Tuscan, middle eastern jumble. Prices are normal for Lagos starting at 22,000 for a small room. The room was ok if a little unusual on two levels, with the lower level just having some chairs and a table. Bed was comfy, AC worked. Had some beers and mezze at the pool. Food was really quite good and reasonably priced. Nice relaxing atmosphere at the small pool.
Like so many places in Nigeria it is the little things that let this place down. Shower head broken and spraying everywhere, some plumbing leaking onto bathroom floor, laundry man no where to be found the whole day, receptionist asleep on the lobby sofa at 7 pm, only 2 TV channels with a normal picture (one sport and one local Nigerian TV). With a little effort this could be a really nice alternative to some of the larger chain hotels in Lagos.
