“Fantastic property with top class service”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

I stayed at Scott's Cottage with 3 other family members, taking 3 rooms in total. All of us found it to a wonderful establishment, with large, spacious but very comfortable air-conditioned rooms, great food made to order and a well stocked bar!

However, for all of the properties qualities, the most striking aspect of Scott's Cottage is the fantastic service given by all of the staff members. We also used Scott's transfer service from the airport, and from the moment we arrived in Lagos we were looked after by the hotel manager, Godwin, and his friendly, hardworking colleagues. Godwin even arranged tickets for an internal flight we needed to make, helped us exchange money into local currency, and even escorted us into the airport and helped us check in as we left, all of which was a huge help and gave us great piece of mind. Overall, the service was superb, and I am looking forward to returning for an even longer stay. Many thanks!

I have been visiting Lagos twice a year for the last six years. I usually stay in Lekki at the house of a Ghanaian business colleague despite the awful morning traffic to Victoria Island. This year, as his cook had deserted him and due to the roadworks on the Lekki Expressway making life even more miserable than usual, I stayed at Scott’s Cottage in Ikoyi.

The guesthouse is run by an Englishman who has spent much of his working life in Lagos. His family has grown up and moved back to the UK but Peter has kept the family house. He now works part time and has an excellent manager to look after the guests who are often expats on medium term contracts but also businessmen who are only in Lagos for a few nights.

The accommodation consists of spacious suites, very clean if a little old fashioned, with a comfortable sitting/dining room, satellite TV with a full range of channels, a reliable and reasonably fast wi-fi or wired internet connection, laundry and all the beer and soft drinks you want included in the bed and continental breakfast price. The price seems to vary but is between £120-160 per night, which compares very favourably with the Eko and other Western frequented hotels. The guesthouse is in its own gated grounds with a small swimming pool and gym. There is also a small bar where you can buy wine and spirits.

The kitchen will prepare you a small sandwich lunchbox, extremely useful because unless you are in the centre of the city it is hard to find a reasonable place to eat. You can also get a simple one course evening meal.

The location has its pluses and minuses. It is very quick to get onto Victoria Island in the morning and also to cross the bridge to the mainland. However, there are no shops or restaurants nearby so you need a taxi or a local with a car to take you out in the evening. I will certainly be staying here on my future trips to Lagos.

For anyone wanting reliable car hire in Lagos, I can recommend Metrodirect. I have used them every time to take me to/from the airport and for daily hire to visit customers. Contact John on +234 (802) 307 6074, www.metrodirectng.com
