The Federal Palace Hotel

Certificate of Excellence

I lived in Lagos for a while. Now I go back and forth at least 5 times a year. Federal Palace has lifted the bar up. This hotel has shown people what a great hotel is supposed to look like. The rooms are not so big but rather very comfy. Clean and neat. The swimming pool is great. They have the best casino in Lagos. The view of the lagoon is great. Although not so great on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Now, about the yellow water. I did realize the water was yellow for about 3 days of my 8 days stay. But its ok. All in all, the hotel is the best place to stay in Lagos.

I recently spent about 10 days in the Federal Palace and found the hotel to be a wonderful departure from the average West African hotel experience. The room was clean and well appointed, the restaurant and bar were both very good and they just opened what must be one of the nicest hotel pool complexes in Africa. The service was attentive, the staff accommodating and I didn't have any problems with my credit card. Wireless and wired internet connections. Their fitness center was decent as well, though I didn't use it. There's also a casino in the hotel that I didn't make it into.

I enjoyed my five nights at the Federal Palace Hotel. The staff went out of their way to greet and help everyone, the place is pristine, and the food is great. The hotel hosted a Jazz Festival during my stay and it was relaxing to hang out at the pool. The hotel geatures a large pool, long waterslides, an 18 hole mini-golf course, trampolines, fitness park, and play area for the kids. The gym is one of the nicest i have seen in Africa at a hotel and overall the hotel was impressive and i would highly recommend it to others. The bath water was still yellow and the wifi was weak, but it didnt feel like i was in Africa here.

This hotel is much better than the Eko Suites. The food was good and the workout facility above average. This is a pricey hotel with small rooms, but it is very comfortable. The tap water does have a slight yellow discoloration as reported by a previous Trip Advisor guest. Bottled water is provided in each room at no charge. If not for the water issue I would rate this hotel very good.

Do not pay with credit card as the hotel (or employees) abuse your credit card. They draw the amount of your stay numerous times as they make "manual" transactions and copy your details.

My stay in this hotel was terrible. Apart from the yellow hard water in the bathtubs, they actually served me rotten fish. When i complained, they said i had eaten part of the fish and therefore i had no grounds to complain. How would i know it was bad if i never tasted it? Even the waiter who took away the plate tasted it and said it was bad, but the cook i spoke to said it was flavouring. I wonder what kind of flavour would produce a rotten taste in fish? They could not even apologize.

I have been travelling to Lagos on business for the last 15 years, staying in a wide range of over-priced and sub-standard accommodation. Without a doubt the Federal Palace, since its refurbishment and the assumption of operational control by South African management, is the best hotel I have stayed in in Lagos. The foyer is large and suitable for informal meetings. The rooms are on the small side, but well furnished and very clean. The beds are supremely comfortable and the bed linen is of high quality. Breakfast is extremely good, with a wide variety of food on offer. Meals during the rest of the day are less impressive (the menu is fairly limited, although the quality is fine) and service quality is variable (if you are sitting on the verandah at the rear of the hotel you sometimes have to go to the bar to call for service). At the time of my stay a new gym was being opened. There is a large casino in the hotel, but no swimming pool. The business centre is adequate and there is cable internet in the rooms and a wireless service in public areas. The only real downside is the price, which at $400+ is very high by international standards, although on a par with the other top end hotels in this expensive city.
