“A good room, and a bad one”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Lakeside chalets of variable quality in a pleasant garden with a pleasant open restaurant. The hotel decided to give 'our' reserved room away before we arrived, and we we spent the first night in a grubby cell without A/C and with no hot water (Room 1). We moved for the next two nights to Room 14, which was bigger and had hot water and A/C and from then on our stay was fine. The restaurant food was cheap, substantial and rather unimaginative.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the room you booked, and check it before accepting!

The beach of Venecia is definetly not the best of Ometepe, the water is very calm but Santo Domingo is 100 times nice than that one, in the other hand the hotel is not expensive and it is clean and comfortable. Ants are a problem but all the windows had nets so it is hard to do something about it anywhere in the island. The beach in the hotel itself is not nice but if you walk 6 minutes along the coast you will find the beach of charco verde which is a lot nicer. Location is not that bad, you might feel you are in the middle of nowhere but you can take the bus after a 5 minutes walk and if you walk a little bit further you have the town of San Jose del Sur where there are restaurants and also you can take the ferry back to San Jorge without having the need to return to Moyagalpa where there is nothing.

Stayed here for only one night (thankfully).
Room very large but little else going for it. Large gaps in door frame & window frames which let in numerous bugs & mozzies - sadly no mosquito nets provided meaning for an unpleasant night's sleep. A/C not great for such a large room. Plenty hot water tho'.
Food at restaurant excellent - the fish is fresh & tasty & served in very large portions for a very reasonable price.

We stayed for two nights at this place. The cabins are very clean and nice, one of the best we had in nicaragua. Also with hot water.
The problem with the place is that it is in the middle of nowhere. You have to get a taxi or rent a motorcycle to get out. You kind of have to eat breakfast and dinner at the hotel, but the restaurant is with little choice and the food is not that good.
As for service, the guy at the reception is the rudest! We asked him to get us a taxi to the port on the day we left and he just didn't do it.
Important- I asked for a receipt after I payed, they told me they want to make it cheaper so they don't charge and don't pay taxes so they cannot give me a receipt. If I want one then I need to pay more.

We stayed in a beachfront room for one night. The AC didn't work at all in the first room we were assigned, but we had no problem getting another room. The rooms are large, with a small shower and restroom. Our room was clean, but furniture is well worn and the beds are a bit hard. As other have mentioned, the kitchen has limited hours, but the fried fish we had was really good. The hotel is a short walk up the beach from the Charco Verde reserve and the hotel next the reserve has a nicer beach area and larger (slightly pricier) restaurant. If you're okay with no frills accomodations, you'd be just fine here.

Finca Playa Venecia is located 20 minutes walking from the harbour. It has different options (cabins or rooms). We stayed in both of them, and the best option for the price are the cabins. We had air conditioning which it's a must in July. We felt they were not very well organized as sometimes there werent any members of staff at the reception. As some other travellers said, the restaurant is ok, but having to see many waiters sitting down in the restaurant talking about their own business, it didnt look good at all.
Anyway, the best option would be to rent a motorbike so that you can reach the other parts of the island, if not... its a bit difficult or expensive.

Goods
- a few cabins are lake front with a beautiful view
- price is fair (only for the lake front cabin)

Bads
- the place has not been renovated for a long time and it totally lacks atmosphere
- the village is kms away, and the hotel restaurant/bar closes at 7,30 pm for 12 hours. During this time you cannot get anything, even a water bottle
- they misunderstood my reservation on the phone
- only two persons speak English
- not exactly 'bugs free' (but in Ometepe this may be normal)
