“Breathtaking Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

La Omaja: first off, La Omaja is not for the faint of heart - but then if you were faint of heart you wouldn't have made it to Ometepe in the first place. The Perfect: the view could not be better. It is astounding, jaw-dropping every direction, every time. The Great: Jamie's staff are wonderful, helpful, friendly, quick with a smile and a laugh. The Good: the cabin's are basic - if a bit buggy - but they're practically free - so you know - what are you complaining about? Caveat: before you go, study the island and know what you want to see and how you want to get there. Ometepe is slow going. And entirely enchanting. (and Jamie is utterly fantastic at explaining it all to you over and over again.) Thanks Jamie.

Room Tip: They are all private with a porch and views of the stars, the water, the monkeys loping by and the v...

Jamie is amazing. Honestly, without his kindness I don't think our trip would have been the same. La Omaja is beautiful. The pool and the view of the lake and volcano is to die for. I love how the rooms are separate units and each have their own little porch. Everyone that worked here was wonderful and sweet and the food was great. I'm definitely coming back.

Stayed one week and loved every minute. The most beautiful views and friendly staff. The value was unbeatable and the food fresh and delicious! Thanks to Jamie for everything! The ride their is a bit rough, but it is all a part of the experience. A high-clearance vehicle is a must!

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we absolutely loved Ometepe and staying at La Omaja. Jamie, the owner, greeted us as our ferry arrived and every party of our stay was immersed in great service. The staff at La Omaja are very sweet and kind, and we enjoyed getting to learn their names and hear a little bit of their stories. Cabs on Ometepe are a bit expensive ($20 to $30 each way usually), but there were so many lovely adventures to be had on the island. My favorite was hiking up to the nearby waterfall, but we also loved how kind and fun it was to meet some of the locals.

Glad you enjoyed your stay, Ometepe is still very genuine and the local people are very round of their little island and love to have visitors. We wish you lifelong happiness together, best of luck.

La Omaja is a beautiful place to stay on Ometepe. They arranged for a taxi to meet me at the ferry and after about a forty minute ride I arrived. I was greeted immediately and shown to my room. My room was part of a cabin that was divided into two separate units. My unit had a private bathroom with hot water, a full size bed, and air conditioning. The room was very clean, though somewhat Spartan. The grounds were beautiful. The views from the infinity pool and dining area are marvelous. So just grab a hammock and watch the sunset while the friendly staff bring you your favorite beverage or prepare you a tasty dinner. The food is really good. La Omaja is a great place to relax and enjoy Ometepe.

My girlfriend & I, both in our late twenties stayed here in Feb of 2014 for a couple nights and let me break it down for you peeps.

1-1.5 hrs via car to get here from the wharf/ ferry. 30-35$ for This. An amazing way to see part of the island. Jamie, the owner will book this for you in advance if you ask.

Nice clean rooms $40 a night
Awesome pool and hot tub
Amazing margaritas and other drinks. ( 1-4$ )
Food is good but not mind blowing ( 4-10$ )
A 5-10 min walk to the lake.
Easy to arrange activities such as hikes and kayaking etc.
The staff is super friendly.

This place is rad and not overpriced at all. Luxury cheap if you will.

Would def return. All negative reviews are quite funny to read. Have fun and relax here if you have the opportunity.

Thumbs up!

We enjoyed our first visit so much that we booked a second visit this year. The staff, food and views are just wonderful. We plan to return every year. Jamie's recommendation to go to the waterfall was spot on, he is knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations in the area

Room Tip: Booked a room with A/C but didn't need it.
