“A jungle oasis”

My friend and I stayed here for two nights upon recommendation from a fellow traveler. It is the nicest accommodation in playa santo Domingo but keep in mind it's very very quiet. We were ok with this and know its the low season but it was a very sleepy place. The bugs were really bad while we were there to the point that you couldn't sit outside past dusk.

The beds were surprisingly comfortable and the air conditioning was great and necessary. The bathroom was large and totally fine. This is somewhat more of a camp vibe and not a hotel so just to warn people of that.

We did the hike up volcan maderas. The guide was arranged through the hotel. A lovely young guy but he didn't speak any English at all and for a hard core hike we weren't prepped too well - perhaps our fault for not reading more but it wasn't informative unfortunately. We would have loved to learn more about what we were seeing on the very difficult hike, as a reward for our efforts!

The vegetarian restaurant a few doors down was the main dinner option beyond the hotel. We probably would've eaten at the hotel for dinner but the ambience was sub par with just a fluorescent light in the dining room. We did eat lunch here and food was good but a little more pricey than down the road.

Overall a good option if you're ok with some bugs, and a little bit of ruggedness. Nice pool and access to the beach- beautiful lake water.

Staying at Villa Paraiso was a great choice! Price-wise, it was excellent - but being divided between 8 college students really brought down the price per student. Also, being the off-season, the manager was willing to lower the price to keep us there. Rooms are clean and comfortable with hot water and AC (rarity in Nicaragua). We enjoyed swimming in the lake that was very close - very warm water (at least for North American standards), sandy beach, and a great vista! The food at the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. As far as things to do nearby - we kayaked down Rio Istian, and swam in El Ojo Agua (I recommend this if you want to relax! Cheap, and about 40 minutes walk away. Worth it!) If we were there longer - we only stayed two nights - we probably would have hiked up one of the volcanoes as well.
Drawback to Villa Paraiso - there were quite a few gnats, or some type of insect of the sort. Not biting, as far as I could tell, but they were an annoyance. I'm not sure if they are there year round, or are particularly bad this year, but just so future "vacactioners" are aware. Being on break from schoolwork, this place was a refreshing place to recharge our batteries!

We got a good deal on the room as it was low season. Otherwise, I would have found the place a bit overpriced. The rooms were clean and well-stocked. The staff did what was needed but were not friendly or particularly helpful. They did offer to deliver coffee to our room which was nice.

The restaurant was good for breakfast but other meals were not inspiring. We ate elsewhere.

There was a water dispenser out front but it was usually empty. We purchased bottled water down the road.

The pool was clean and was nice to have. The beach was better maintained than other beaches nearby.

Overall, it was fine.

This place has a lovely view of the lake and the staff are relatively helpful, however that's about all. Our bed had lots of ants in it and the room was very tired with a ridiculously noisy AC that I was convinced would explode at some point. On our first night (one of two) we took the ferry and arrived at 8:30. Everyone in town of Granada (including travel agents) told us the wrong time for the ferry 2pm... Instead it left at 5pm and we arrived at 8. In short we hadn't eaten for hours and arrived to the hotel to be told everything was closed and we couldn't eat anything. We were travelling with a friend who was a diabetic and this was just not ok for them! After begging for anything we were offered an old ham and cheese sandwich and a banana. Ometepe is nice itself...we went on a lovely horse ride to a lagoon which made the trip over worthwhile.

Great two nights spent at Hotel Villa Paraiso which sits right on the beach with stunning views of the crashing waves and a refreshing breeze. Walking and driving around the area we could tell that we definitely picked the best hotel option, and for $50 a night for a private cabin it was a bargain.

The cabins themselves are pretty basic, but they were sufficiently clean and had good running hot water.

The restaurant is the place to be to enjoy the panoramic views - and the food there is great! We ended up having several meals there because we enjoyed it so much. Pretty reasonable pricing considering this is a hotel ($8 for a filete de jalepeno steak dinner, $13 for lobster) and given the quantity and caliber of the food.

The staff was nice and attentive. My only complaint was that they said they had WiFi but when I brought it to their attention that it wasn't working the front desk attendant just shrugged it off. In the end not a big deal as several other places on the block have WiFi so it was easy enough to walk to a place when I needed to connect back home.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Villa Paraiso over 5 years ago when she was 4-months pregnant with our now 5-yea told son.
This place holds a very fond memory in our hearts as the last place we visited as non-parents. We loved it! Trip Advisor was not invented yet...so sorry for the late review.

Our room was lovely an clean with a fantastic view of the lake. We loved seeing the horses swimming in the mornings and evenings and walking down the street to Ojo de agua. I got a chance to climb Mt. Conception while my wife stayed behind and enjoy the beach.

Everyone we met was very friendly and if anyone ever drove by in a car in the direction we were walking always stopped and asked if we needed a ride (we did on more than one occasion).

My suggestion is to hire a local guide during your stay who knows the best places to go on the island. Our guide even went kayaking with us down the river and over to monkey island (don't get too close...they bite and throw poop!!)

Keep in mind that this place and Nicaragua in general is not for the typical traveler. There might be nicer places to stay since 5 years ago, but now that our son is learning Spanish, this hotel and La Isla De Ometepe will be tops on our list of places to return
!

Most hotels on the island are inexpensive and basic. This hotel has all the conveniences and rustic charm too in the form of bungalows with private patios and hammocks. Well located for arranging activities after arrival. Of course it is one of the pricier options but if you want the splurge of a hot shower, AC, and WIFI with a good restaurant this is the place.
