“Beachfront paradise”

Villa Paraiso is a quiet little hotel on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. They have 'cabins' or rooms, both of which are well equipped with air conditioning, TV and private bathrooms. The Santo Domingo beach is right down a set of stairs. They have a great restaurant and bar with excellent service. This is probably the best hotel on the island, which is one of the most beautiful places in Central America.

Room Tip: I prefer the privacy of the cabanas over the individual rooms.

For the price paid, I expected a lot more from Paraiso. Yes, it has nice views over the lake, but overall I felt very disappointed with our stay. There were ants in our bed on arrival and the shower had an intermittent strong odour of something really unpleasant.
There is a brochure in the room describing the tours the hotel can arrange for you. We wanted to take the one to the waterfall, which included transport, guide, entrance to the waterfalls and lunch. We were told they don't offer this any more but arranged for us to go with someone else - which was more expensive, no lunch, entrance extra and we had to persuade the driver we did want his help navigating the route!
At breakfast time the tables weren't cleared quickly and birds started eating the leftovers straight off the table.
Staff were not especially friendly or helpful, the rooms not very comfortable and food was average but quite pricey.
Judging by other reviews, perhaps we were just unlucky!
It was 20 dollars in a taxi from the port.

This place lives up to its name. Simple, relaxing and very clean at a reasonable price. Staff were genuine and friendly; we felt very comfortable during our stay. It is also worth going horse riding provided by the hotel. Food was great, they cater for European, North American and South American pallets. If you want a simple oatmeal they have it, if you want steak and eggs they have it. Definitely Seek this place out, it is off the beaten path but worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for room number 2.

We really enjoyed our villa, which had a beautiful view of the lake. The hotel office and restaurant staff are quite friendly and helpful. Additionally, the food at the restaurant is excellent. I definitely highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money if you can and get a cabin with a view of the lake...

We found Villa Paraiso right here in Trip Advisor and we were so happy we did. This property is located just south of the isthmus between Concepcion and Madeira peaks on the east side of Ometepe. It is located right on the beach and is made up of a restaurant with covered outdoor dining, an inside bar, lobby area, air-conditioned inside dining room, small outdoor swimming pool, and several private and semi-private bungalows.

We arrived right at the time the restaurant was closing and called ahead to let them know when we would be arriving. They graciously kept the kitchen open just a bit longer to get us all fed. Our dinner was chimichuri beef, salad, tostones, and gallopinto, washed down with an ice cold Toña cerveza.

After dinner, we checked into our room, a charming semi-private bungalow. What I mean by semi-private is that there were separate gust rooms in this bungalow. A short walk on a path through a tropical garden took us to the tiled covered terrace in front of our bungalow. A hammock hung at the front of the terrace beckoning for someone to come relax on it. We entered our spacious room, which was nicely trimmed with hardwoods and sported a cool tile floor. Fortunately, we had air conditioning, but the real treat was the hot water in the bathroom, which by then, I had discovered, is relatively uncommon in Nicaragua. One thing to keep in mind if in a semi-private bungalow is sound travels through the wall between the two guest rooms, so just be mindful and considerate of your neighbors.

In the morning, we made our way to the outdoor dining area for breakfast. The food was great and varied from traditional Nica faire to really yummy thin pancakes, to eggs any way you want them. A fresh fruit plate was always included. The service and food were so good, we found no need to go anywhere else to eat during our stay. The servers always graciously accommodated every request, even serving lunch to us down by the beach. In the evening, we enjoyed having cocktails on the patio and the bartenders had no problem making piña coladas, dark and stormy's, mojitos and anything else we could think of.

Internet was only available in the dining area and was very intermittent, through no fault of Villa Paraiso. It's just the way things are on Ometepe.

As far as activities go, the staff will assist you with setting up any number of different outings. One day, we chose to go hiking up Madeira and they had a guide there for us within minutes of our request.

All in all, this was a great stay and great value. As hard as I think about it, I am unable to think of even one criticism. The next time we visit Ometepe, this is where we will stay.

We stayed here in July 2013 for one night. I would not recommend this hotel. The room we stayed in smelled of insecticide and was definitely worn out. Our daughters stayed in a nicer room, that was still too expensive. The location is nice on the beach between the two volcanoes. Their restaurant is not very special.

I would recommend this hotel without a doubt in my mind.Beginning with the drivers who picked-up us at the Managua International Airport and drove us back and forth;the Receptionists, waiters, all personnnel were very, very efficient, courteous. The facilities are beautiful, peaceful, relaxing. Lots of things to do in the island, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, etc.

Room Tip: Pick-up a room facing the lake. No swimming pool or fitness center available.
