“Villa Paraiso”

We really enjoyed our villa, which had a beautiful view of the lake. The hotel office and restaurant staff are quite friendly and helpful. Additionally, the food at the restaurant is excellent. I definitely highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money if you can and get a cabin with a view of the lake...

We found Villa Paraiso right here in Trip Advisor and we were so happy we did. This property is located just south of the isthmus between Concepcion and Madeira peaks on the east side of Ometepe. It is located right on the beach and is made up of a restaurant with covered outdoor dining, an inside bar, lobby area, air-conditioned inside dining room, small outdoor swimming pool, and several private and semi-private bungalows.

We arrived right at the time the restaurant was closing and called ahead to let them know when we would be arriving. They graciously kept the kitchen open just a bit longer to get us all fed. Our dinner was chimichuri beef, salad, tostones, and gallopinto, washed down with an ice cold Toña cerveza.

After dinner, we checked into our room, a charming semi-private bungalow. What I mean by semi-private is that there were separate gust rooms in this bungalow. A short walk on a path through a tropical garden took us to the tiled covered terrace in front of our bungalow. A hammock hung at the front of the terrace beckoning for someone to come relax on it. We entered our spacious room, which was nicely trimmed with hardwoods and sported a cool tile floor. Fortunately, we had air conditioning, but the real treat was the hot water in the bathroom, which by then, I had discovered, is relatively uncommon in Nicaragua. One thing to keep in mind if in a semi-private bungalow is sound travels through the wall between the two guest rooms, so just be mindful and considerate of your neighbors.

In the morning, we made our way to the outdoor dining area for breakfast. The food was great and varied from traditional Nica faire to really yummy thin pancakes, to eggs any way you want them. A fresh fruit plate was always included. The service and food were so good, we found no need to go anywhere else to eat during our stay. The servers always graciously accommodated every request, even serving lunch to us down by the beach. In the evening, we enjoyed having cocktails on the patio and the bartenders had no problem making piña coladas, dark and stormy's, mojitos and anything else we could think of.

Internet was only available in the dining area and was very intermittent, through no fault of Villa Paraiso. It's just the way things are on Ometepe.

As far as activities go, the staff will assist you with setting up any number of different outings. One day, we chose to go hiking up Madeira and they had a guide there for us within minutes of our request.

All in all, this was a great stay and great value. As hard as I think about it, I am unable to think of even one criticism. The next time we visit Ometepe, this is where we will stay.

We stayed here in July 2013 for one night. I would not recommend this hotel. The room we stayed in smelled of insecticide and was definitely worn out. Our daughters stayed in a nicer room, that was still too expensive. The location is nice on the beach between the two volcanoes. Their restaurant is not very special.

I would recommend this hotel without a doubt in my mind.Beginning with the drivers who picked-up us at the Managua International Airport and drove us back and forth;the Receptionists, waiters, all personnnel were very, very efficient, courteous. The facilities are beautiful, peaceful, relaxing. Lots of things to do in the island, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, etc.

Room Tip: Pick-up a room facing the lake. No swimming pool or fitness center available.

This hotel is located right on the beach between the 2 volcanos en Isla Ometepe. The hotel was clean and the personnel were awesome. They helped me coordinate my trip back to Costa Rica with a taxi, ferry and the bus. The resturant here is first class and the food was awesome. If your going to visit Isla Ometepe this is the place!

After having spent a week on a medical mission in Nicaragua, my wife and I with our 5 month old daughter wanted to do some sightseeing. We were told to go to an expensive resort in San Juan Del Sur and were disappointed after spending a night there so we decided to take the ferry to Ometepe to see what was there. We had no car or accomodations when we arrived on the island and thought we would just 'wing it'. A porter started grabbing our bags once the ferry docked and we were a bit concerned - our Spanish is not good at all and he didn't speak English. He brought us to a guy on the shore who spoke excellent English and had a van. We explained that we didn't know where to go and he offered to take us to the beach area to find a good hotel. He turned out to be an excellent tour guide, telling us the history of Ometepe along the way. He brought us to Villa Paraiso and we asked to see the available rooms. We were shown two rooms which were clean and had air conditioning and reasonable amenities. For $10 more we could have the bungalo overlooking the water (#1) with a porch decked out with hammock and chairs. We took it! This is not really fancy, but we had just paid $260 for a night at Pelican Eyes, and we liked the rustic charm of this better. There are 5-6 other small hotel/restaurants along the beach here. We didn't swim, but the beach was nice to walk on and it had good views of both volcanos. We ate at the restarant that evening and found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced. The shower had great water pressure, the AC worked great, and the TV was functional. For $70, this was more expensive than many budget travel options, but I thought it was well worth it. My wife and I decided that if we come back to Nicaragua, we will come back here. We arranged for a tour guide to pick us up the next morning and for $60 total, he took us around to Agua de Ojos, a Finca (coffee plantation), Choco Verde and several other sights before dropping us off at the ferry for our return trip. This was a highlight of our visit to the country!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #1 - a little more expensive but overlooks the water from the private porch.

We stayed here for one night, our first night on the island, and were pretty tired from our 6 days of backpacking so far. That being said, being able to blast the A/C and veg out with some TV was a very unexpected but welcomed activity, at least for our feet! The rooms were cleaner than others we had stayed in, but was loud because our room ended up being right next door to the kitchen.

There wasn't a view from the room, but we didn't need it, seeing as we arrived late, dropped our things and used their rental bikes to get to Ojo de Agua. (Which we highly recommend!) I noticed another reviewer mentioned the slight sewage smell in the room... we noticed this too, but we don't think this was unexpected, nearly every hotel we've stayed at in Central America has this issue and we didn't see it as a deal breaker.

We didn't eat at the hotel, we checked out the menu and it was much, much too expensive for our tastes. However, I should mention that this was the first hotel we stayed at that took credit cards, so that was a plus!

There is a small convenience store right across the street which we went to for beer, water and a few snacks.

Overall, we didn't think it was worth it for the price, but we travel on a very small budget. If you planned to just lounge in the town for a few days and had a room with a view - I expect your experience may be better than ours was!

Room Tip: We stayed in #28, it was right next to the kitchen and we could hear shouting and pots and pans bang...
