After having spent a week on a medical mission in Nicaragua, my wife and I with our 5 month old daughter wanted to do some sightseeing. We were told to go to an expensive resort in San Juan Del Sur and were disappointed after spending a night there so we decided to take the ferry to Ometepe to see what was there. We had no car or accomodations when we arrived on the island and thought we would just 'wing it'. A porter started grabbing our bags once the ferry docked and we were a bit concerned - our Spanish is not good at all and he didn't speak English. He brought us to a guy on the shore who spoke excellent English and had a van. We explained that we didn't know where to go and he offered to take us to the beach area to find a good hotel. He turned out to be an excellent tour guide, telling us the history of Ometepe along the way. He brought us to Villa Paraiso and we asked to see the available rooms. We were shown two rooms which were clean and had air conditioning and reasonable amenities. For $10 more we could have the bungalo overlooking the water (#1) with a porch decked out with hammock and chairs. We took it! This is not really fancy, but we had just paid $260 for a night at Pelican Eyes, and we liked the rustic charm of this better. There are 5-6 other small hotel/restaurants along the beach here. We didn't swim, but the beach was nice to walk on and it had good views of both volcanos. We ate at the restarant that evening and found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced. The shower had great water pressure, the AC worked great, and the TV was functional. For $70, this was more expensive than many budget travel options, but I thought it was well worth it. My wife and I decided that if we come back to Nicaragua, we will come back here. We arranged for a tour guide to pick us up the next morning and for $60 total, he took us around to Agua de Ojos, a Finca (coffee plantation), Choco Verde and several other sights before dropping us off at the ferry for our return trip. This was a highlight of our visit to the country!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #1 - a little more expensive but overlooks the water from the private porch.

We stayed here for one night, our first night on the island, and were pretty tired from our 6 days of backpacking so far. That being said, being able to blast the A/C and veg out with some TV was a very unexpected but welcomed activity, at least for our feet! The rooms were cleaner than others we had stayed in, but was loud because our room ended up being right next door to the kitchen.

There wasn't a view from the room, but we didn't need it, seeing as we arrived late, dropped our things and used their rental bikes to get to Ojo de Agua. (Which we highly recommend!) I noticed another reviewer mentioned the slight sewage smell in the room... we noticed this too, but we don't think this was unexpected, nearly every hotel we've stayed at in Central America has this issue and we didn't see it as a deal breaker.

We didn't eat at the hotel, we checked out the menu and it was much, much too expensive for our tastes. However, I should mention that this was the first hotel we stayed at that took credit cards, so that was a plus!

There is a small convenience store right across the street which we went to for beer, water and a few snacks.

Overall, we didn't think it was worth it for the price, but we travel on a very small budget. If you planned to just lounge in the town for a few days and had a room with a view - I expect your experience may be better than ours was!

Room Tip: We stayed in #28, it was right next to the kitchen and we could hear shouting and pots and pans bang...

I did not stay at the hotel here, but I had breakfast and lunch here several times. The coffee was good, and so was all of the food here. My friend ordered Pescado Barbecoa (I forget the spelling, but it was fish on a grill) and it was amazingly delicious. The staff are really nice and helpful and tranquil, and it is on a beautiful stretch of beach with the Maderas volcano on the horizon to the left, and there are a lot of baracas in the trees nearby, which are those beautiful, exotic, blue and black birds. It is a great place to enjoy sunset on the beach, too. I just love this place and will return whenever I return to Nicaragua!

For $70 per night, we had NO hot water and were placed in a bungalow close to the parking lot. The receptionists were unfriendly and not helpful. The food is waaayyy too salty! This could be such a fine place and experience, but they really miss the mark.

We stayed 2 nights and were more than disappointed...the room was dirty with insects insight the room (ants, etc), but the worst was the smell. I never experienced something likes this...the room smelled like a public train station toilette...and for that we should pay 60 USD per night without breakfast...
Food in the restaurant was ok and location is actually also alright.

I was on Ometepe with 3 friends first week of Feb 2013. It is a cute hotel, grounds are beautiful, and restaurant staff and food are very good. I cannot say the same for the front desk staff as we had issues with our transportation both getting to the hotel and leaving. We booked a taxi to pick us up at the ferry and he did not show. We ended up having to grab a taxi there which was a little stressful since on Ometepe they do not have the same markers as elsewhere in Nicaragua. Also, when we left to go back to the ferry, we had paid the hotel for the transportation (it was clearly listed on the bill) and the cab driver insisted he would not get paid and wanted us to pay him as well. Other than that though the area is awesome.. just a little work to get from place to place. I would recommend a longer stay if you want to do it all- we were there only 2 days and only made it to Ojo de Agua (awesome).

Room Tip: The rooms are pretty basic but it was not an issue as we did not spend much time in our cabin. Views...

There is no doubt that this hotel is in a great location. We stayed for three nights in peak season between Xmas and New Years so spent 70 for a hotel room there. The rooms were run down an the room we had seemed to share a wall with the kitchen so we heard pots and pans and voices very early in the morning. The room also had a very bad smell and the toilet was faulty. When we went to the front desk to request that they fix our toilet it took asking 2x to get someone. They tried for 20 seconds and then instructed us to put our dirty toilet paper in the garbage can instead of flushing it. That wasnt acceptable to me but we had no other choice and all other rooms were occupied. In nica, 70 is a lot to spend on a hotel room. Although really nice looking from the outside, the inside needs work. Tv was really small and old and bed was hard and a double not a queen. Again, if we had spent less I would expect less.

The food was very good with few exceptions. The restaurant area is beautiful and relaxing with a nice breeze and view of the water. More expensive then everywhere else but nice to have the convenience and easy that you can bill it to the room. For beer, there are places just a short walk from the beach that you can buy for half the price. Too bad the rooms don't have fridges which forces you to buy their expensive drinks.

Swimming is amazing, beach also amazing. They should invest in some good beach chairs and umbrellas and have the beach bar open or someone serving drinks to those lying on the beach. It's little things like that that would make this place special and it's inexpensive to implement! We were there at their busiest time and for four days the beach bar was never opened once.

I would never stay here again because of the staff. The management, front desk staff, and waitstaff (all guest facing pple) were consistently rude. No smiles, no friendliness- scowled and acted like you were putting them out. I see this come up over and over in the reviews so I'm not the only one that noticed this.

This resort has a lot of potential but right now it is nowhere near its potential and not worth the price.
