We were waiting for the monster from the green lagoon to emerge from the murky water. .... it never did but kept the suspense. Lots of beautiful trees and views --a peaceful hike and very easy too.

Charco Verde is a national park that has several walking paths and a quiet lake-side beach. It is very rustic with lots of birds and butterflies. Right next door, however, is a very nice restaurant and bar!

The very friendly guide at the entrance made the walks seem much bigger than they were. We walked a big circuit, taking in almost every path and didn't find it at all onerous. We were just in flip flops and took them off a few times to wade calf-deep in the water. Saw some nice birds and great views. Very peaceful. Returned the next day on horseback and enjoyed seeing it from a different angle. We were happy to pay the small foreigner fee.

This was my second time at Charco Verde and stay at hotel Venecia. The rooms facing the water are really nice and have a view of the water. The owners seem to be removing some of the trees along the water and I wish they had left them in place as it added a nice tropical feel but it's still a lovely location.

Close by to a small village with restaurant options, other hotels and hiking around the lagoon and a great hike up El Diable and surrounding areas.

Food is ok, but the steak fish was exceptionally nice both times I was there. The rest of the menu is just ok for the most part.
