“A Wonderful Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful. We didn't stay in the main facility - sometimes Eileen & Darrin will rent out a cabin that is located further in on the property. It is a little more expensive but well worth the additional cost. If you don't mind being out in the middle of what seems like nowhere it is fantastic. The cabin has an open living room/kitchen area and a screened in bedroom and bathroom. Sitting in the living room you look straight out to Concepcion Volcano - what a view!

I can't say enough for the hospitality extended by Eileen. She will help you make arrangements for tours, tell you where to eat (and even arrange delivery of dinners), where to rent bikes - you name it and she will give you help. The breakfasts are to die for. I am a breakfast person and the ones here are some of the best I have ever had.

Ometepe is a great place to visit especially is you like the outdoors. We hiked, kayaked, and rode bikes - there's so much to do. The road to La Via Verde from Moyogalpa is now paved the entire way, so getting there is easier.

If you want to visit Ometepe, this is the place to stay.

I can’t say enough good things about this place and its owners, Eileen & Darrin. I am really glad we picked this place and did so based on the reviews from Trip Advisor. The rooms are small but there was a good sized private deck with hammock and rocking chairs—the views were amazing. No AC but we were comfortable most of the time with the large ceiling fan. No TV and didn’t miss it. Slow Wi-Fi available during the day if you need to check email. The room had a locking drawer to keep money and passports in. There was a shared bathroom with hot water adjacent to the sleeping rooms and another bathroom with shower downstairs. There were no issues in sharing the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and place immaculate. Overall, a relaxing and wonderful place.

There was a common area with tables and chairs where we had our breakfast every day. Also a fridge stocked with bottled water, sodas, rum and beer. Water was free and beers about $1.50 US each. They recycle everything here.

The location was good and about 100 yards off the main road. We felt very safe here.

We felt comfortable walking to and from eating places at night. They had menus you could look at and order in and have it delivered if didn’t feel like going out.

Coffee pot was there each morning around 6:30 AM—Eileen roasted her own beans and the coffee was great. Breakfast was served everyday starting at 7:30AM and it was all made from scratch and it was very good and filling. You could have it earlier if you arranged it ahead of time. Breakfast included coffee, juice, fresh fruit and choice of (3) granola, yogurt, omelet, eggs, toast, pancakes, crapes, and beans.

The owners live close by and are on location every day from about 7 AM to 6 PM to help out and answer questions. Eileen is absolutely amazing and friendly. She was so helpful in arranging taxis and tours. This was very important as we don’t speak Spanish and most local people don’t speak English. She went above and beyond to please us and make us feel welcome. They took such good care of us!!!! I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again if we return to Ometepe Island.

They also have a cabin with its own bathroom out back. We toured it and it was very nice also.

We stayed here in September 2012 and were thoroughly blown away by the friendliness of the owners, the attention to detail in the B&B's design and bedroom setup, the huge tasty breakfasts and the incredible view of the volcano. We have traveled for 6 months through central and south america and it remains a highlight. We could not recommend this B&B more highly!

We stayed here three nights and wish we had more time. Super clean with wonderful views in a very peaceful setting. Short walk from a couple small towns and a swimming beach. Eileen went above and beyond in every way including fantastic breakfasts. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Cleanest bathroom in Nicaragua. For sure. This lovely B&B is such a joy.... very comfortable bed, high quality linen, whole place is spotlessly clean, views of the volcano are wonderful. At night the room was breezy and comfortable... NO BUGS, thanks to the high quality screens. After staying in some places that were a comparable price and being CREEPED OUT in the bathrooms, it was such a joy to shower without cringing! Omatepe can be kind of intense (we called it cross-training island!) but this place is pure comfort. Oh, and for dinner, you can walk down to a brilliant cafe/restaurant run by an English expat with great food.

And we always looked forward to picking out our breakfast. You get a choice of 3 delicious items, including lime/pineapple crepes, perfect fluffy American pancakes, omelettes, spicy red or black beans, plus other well done breakfast basics. (The crepes... OH the CREPES!)

Not to mention Eileen's charming conversation. This place deserves all the wonderful reviews it has on here. Would definitely return.

We stayed here for 6 days after reading the reviews on tripadvisor and were not disappointed.

Particularly impressive were:
- the amazing breakfasts; I still think about the crepes!
- the assistance we had organising trips and activities. Eileen mailed us in advance to arrange activities to make sure we didn't get caught out as it was high season and everything we did through them was excellent.
- the binder full of local information
- the amazing views of the volcano from the deck.
- the fridge full of cheap beer and rum
- the attention to detail on the rooms such as the screen windows with strong fans to create a through breeze without A/C, the hammocks on the balcony, the nightlights, the umbrellas in case it rained.
- the excellent value.
- Eileen's tales of Nicaragua and travelling and Eileen and Darrin who are two of the nicest and grooviest people I've ever met.

Where to even begin? We stayed here for 5 nights and this place felt really like living in someone's home that you get to enjoy for the duration of your stay (I just noticed a previous review also stating the same thing, so there you go). We've stayed in many similar type accommodations (B&B's, small inns/guesthouses, etc) and I think we felt more at home/welcome here than anywhere else in the world we have visited. We usually try to book places that have private bathrooms, but it was really not a problem (even for a bathroom hog like me - as far as I could tell I didn't hold anyone up). There is also a downstairs bathroom equipped with another shower, if, say, you come back from hiking and everyone wants to shower at once.
The rooms/bathroom/common area are immaculately clean. In fact, the windows in our bedroom were so clean I thought they weren't even there - I actually had to ask Eileen what they use (just vinegar and water apparently). The huge fan will do a great job keeping you cool at night (with the windows open too) - it was actually the only place we stayed where I could sleep under the covers- and I pretty much need the room to be colder (18-20*C) when I sleep so that was impressive. The bed is nice and comfy, we ended up spending a couple nights reading in bed instead of on the balcony due to some high winds.
The food was fantastic, always so fresh and tasty. We asked Eileen about her pancake recipe and she emailed it to us (will have to try our hand at it this weekend). The fridge is stocked with plenty of beer, rum and (tap) water. Quick FYI - the water is great there and fine to drink as I'm sure you will be told. We had some of those foldable water bottles with us and refilled them every day in the bathroom sink. We also had laundry done twice during our stay.
That kind of sums up the rooms, but not the whole experience. You are well taken care of here. Normally we're the types who just go and book our own activities, but Eileen offered to help arrange some tours for us. If she suggests ANYTHING to you (bike rentals, places to eat, taxi drivers, etc), I recommend taking her advice because it was always always spot on. I'll review the tours/restaurants separately, but I was not disappointed in any regard. We were having trouble connecting to the wifi (we needed to do some work while we were away) and they brought their computer upstairs (better signal for our laptop to connect) for us a few times so we could get things taken care of. Sometimes they'd just come upstairs and visit with us for awhile in the common area.
Definitely recommend bringing a decent flashlight with you because there isn't much light after the sun sets and you will probably want to go out for dinner (we walked to dinner every night). The surrounding area is beautiful and there is a place you can rent bicycles just up the road - I would suggest doing this also as we had a lot of fun.
Hopefully all the glowing reviews have convinced you that this is the place to stay and indeed deserves to be #1 for the island :)
