“Great place for a Erg Chebbi tour”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Hassan is very friendly and speeks english. The price is great, 100DH for one night of 5 person on an autocaravan, including WC with hot water and electricity. Doens't include meals, breakfast or dinner. From here you can book a camel tour to Erg Chebbyi that starts on the hostel entrance. We have booked for 6 a.m. to see the sunrise and the price have been 150DH per person for an hour in the dunes. At 9 a.m the price is lower (100DH), but it's not the same experience. Great tour, nice young berbere guide and enough for a taste of the desert. Hassan prepared our dinner and everything was very good, the soap, the tagine and the fruit. The dinner was 70DH per person. They also let us to bring our own portuguese wine. Just one advise that is not relates with the hostel, but with a scam at the entrance of Merzouga. There are some guys dressed like berberes on a barricade at the entrance of Merzouga that insist to take you for a specific hostel to get some commission. They are very annoying and when we refused they followed the caravan on motorcycles saying that the place we go is very bad, and it isn't! Be careful with this guys, mainly at night if you don't know where is your hostel. Anyway, Le Petit Prince is excellent!

On my first visit to Morocco, with a small group tour, I stayed at Le Petit Prince in Merzouga. Now a temporary resident I have visited Merzouga several times, and even though the hotels, kasbahs and dars in the area are quite lovely, I always stay at the auberge. Situated at the edge of the Erg Chebbi and run by a local family, Le Petit Prince is unpretentious yet has all the comforts I need, whether winter or summer.

One section of the auberge has comfortable air-conditioned rooms with private ensuites, all with an outdoor setting under the verandah bordering the large ‘bivouac’ area and shrubbery. In another section, the rooms are more basic and guests use the shared shower rooms and toilets at the end of the corridor. Although basic, the beds are comfortable and clean. As previously mentioned, the auberge has a large ‘bivouac’ area which is extremely popular and well-known by travellers who are motoring in the area; the shower rooms and toilets facilities are available to the motorists.

The meals are extremely tasty and served in the dining room or the large terrace. On my last visit I enjoyed a hot soup (harira) followed by a Moroccan favourite, tagine with vegetables. Departing in the morning, you will never leave on an empty stomach; For breakfast there is tea, coffee and orange juice, fresh melwi, fresh bread, boiled eggs, cheese, yoghurt and mandolinas.

For tourists new to a desert experience, a trek by camel into Erg Chebbi is a must and the boys from Le Petit Prince will guide you to the high dunes to watch the sunset; stay overnight in a desert camp, enjoy Berber music and dinner cooked under the stars.

Very reasonable rates.

Merzouga is a dusty little village without much going on except for the incredibly gorgeous Erg Chebbi dunes. Arriving by bus late at night, I was overjoyed to find the guys from the Auberge right there waiting for me as I stepped off the bus. The friendly accommodations continued through my entire stay. I stayed one night in the holel and one night out in the desert. I felt comfortable with everything they had to offer. And surprisingly, the food was about the best I had in Morrocco! Highly recommend their tagine and berber omelet. Added bonus, you can get a whole load of laundry done while you soak up the sun. The five brothers who run the place are the BEST! I am a 50+ mom traveling with my 19 year old daughter. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We really loved this place from the moment we arrived. The hospitality is a perfect mix of warm, friendly and professional, we felt relaxed , safe and looked after. Really all the staff are wonderful and kind. We travelled to the Auberge in a rented car from Marrakech and we had great directions from Moha and it was all easy to find thanks to his help before we even arrived.
The Auberge is in a great location, the backgarden is at the foot of the Dunes and this is also where the dromadries are kept. There is also a roof terrace, great views. They have wifi.
We had 2 rooms( number 11 and 12) and they were both clean and traditional, both ensuite with very good showers.
The food was really good, all home cooking , tasty and fresh. We felt very well fed there! Moha even had a beautiful cake made for our daughters birthday and delivered out to us when we went into the desert, it was a lovely touching suprise.
We did go into the village a few times and even sat in one of the shops with the shop owner having tea and chatting for ages, it was great to do that and we felt no pressure to buy anything but we decided to buy a necklace, didnt have any money, the shop keeper said take the necklace and hand the money in the next day...again friendly and kind here in Merzouga. We spent 18 days travelling around in the car , stayed over night in quite a few places but we all agree our stay in La petite prince and going into to the desert was the highlight of our trip as it was an expereince but also this is just a good, well looked after, happy place. Thanks to Moha , Ahmed and all the staff.

Well with the overwhelming choice of operators we followed tripadvisors recommendation and were not disappointed. We stayed 2 nights in the auberge in nice ensuite room, enjoyed buffet breakfast and friendly service from Hassan. For one sunset we climbed the big nearby sand dune and had great views, worth the hard work getting up there. Merzouga itself is a pretty desperate place. From Merzouga a comfortable bus to Marrakech leaves daily at 8 am and on market days a bus goes to Zagora from Rissani. There is also daily in the evening a bus to Fez from Merzouga.
The desert trip with them was good value, recommendable. The guide walks the dromedaries nearly two hours to the camp, hard work! Try it and see. Great dinner, fire and songs, shooting stars and nice camp with toilets and perfect service. For us one night in the desert was enough. The rides are comfy but after 2 hours we were ready to get off and play in the dunes.

I really recommend this place and trips organized by its staff to all of you. We've spent there really great time, starting from night in hotel ending with the camel trek and night on the desert. We came with evening bus and were picked from bus station! We spent one night in hotel - rooms are great - clean and cozy, food - amazing. And night on the desert was wonderful and unforgettable. Moha prepared for us a dinner and teached us how to play berber drums. It was really worth every euro :)
I wish you all nice time in Morocco and especially in Merzouga!
