“Hotel has seen better days, but GREAT camp & AMAZING staff!! 2 nights not enough~”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

We spent two nights here, one night in the desert camp owned by the hotel and one in the hotel itself.

The condition of the camps was so much better than we had imagined- all with electricity, solid beds, clean bedsheets and pillow cases! There was even a hidden washroom with toilet and sink (shhh!) Dinner was great, and our Berberic hosts were lovely~ We enjoyed the camel ride, the meal, the singing, the chatting and all.

Back to the Mohayut the next morning, we had a refreshing shower and breakfast. The hotel was generally comfortable and clean, tho not in its best condition, it was still a lovely shelter for us to hide away from the heat/ rain/sand storm. We understood we were in the desert, so the sand and the bugs didn't bother us too much. The staff was friendly, warm, attentive and even humorous. Though not fluent in English, they tried their best to ensure our comfort.

Special thanks to the staff member (sorry I didn't get his name) for taking my mom back to the hotel on a desert scooter after the night at the camp, for she grew too tired to ride the camel. THANK YOU for your kindness!!

Oh, and we had absolutely the BEST TAGINE BEEF here at Mohayut, you've got to try it!!

Room Tip: I believe we had room 1 & 2. Both were large but A/C wasn't working well.

We stayed here for two nights as part of our trip around Morocco. We had a rented 4x4 so getting across to it on piste rather than road (only the last few km) was good fun, but you do need to make sure you spot the one sign from the main road. The reason for coming here was to do a camel trek into the desert. This was well organised and a permanent "Berber" camp was set up about an hour and a half's ride into the desert, with fully made up beds, a rudimentary toilet and a little cooking area from which a creditable meal was produced in the evening. Views in the desert were stunning and it was quite beautiful and eery in the moonlight at night. The hotel itself was fine, good food and a nice clean swimming pool. Downtown Merzouga is a bit disappointing, but the people and shops in the little village just north of the hotel were nicer.

I and my spouse had a lunch here duding our stay in Merzouga, alghough we had another hotel.
We were fhe only guests having lunch. In spite of that, they were very kind to open the restaurant, switch aircon on, switch music on, dress the traditional caftano, and prepare everything in the besg possible way, just for us and for a quick lunch. We appreciated gheir attitude.
Also food was good, though bask in the traditional maroccan style.
The riad is anyhow very nice, good interiors, good pool.
Probably we would have stayed here instead of the chosen hotel.

kasbah Mohayut is located on the edge of dunes, the best place to have a camel trip and overnight to desert. The staff was so kind and friendly to us. Everything was just perfect. We definitely recommend it.

Kasbah Mohayut is a splendid place to stay as a starting point of a dromedary trek.

Mohayt picked us up late in the night and brought us to the desert.

The position right on the edge of the dunes was amazing. From the terrace you see Mohayt's 8 camels - and next you see the dunes of Sahara !!
Our room was clean an nice - the atmosphere in the kasbah was cosy, calm and relaxed. The pool, which was a absolutely "must" was clean and nice. Staff were friendly and helpful in every way. The breakfast-buffet was very nice.

The dromedary trek was fantastic. We were only our family and the very friendly and considerate guide, who brought us and our camels to the camp in the dunes. We climbed the highest dune. We had a very nice tajine in the desert and slept in the open air. What a starry sky !! What a sunrise !!

(Don't forget to bring a strong torch if you want to explore the desert fox)

We had a young school student working during his holidays to improve his English so he could go to university. We had the best waiters and service. We had a load of fun and had wound a weary track throughout Merouga and surrounds looking for the perfect place to suit our budget, the feeling of in the sand dunes, the ese of walking in them and the total package after searching many was this Kasbah. We walked in to enquire and knew instantly it was perfect. The pool great, and even though it was in the pool a bit run down , this could be easily overlooked by the stunning service and really great time we had. Nothing was too much trouble for these guys. Thanks so much to all of you.

We did the deep desert camp - 1.5h in realtive comfort on the camel, in the sunset to the camp under a large dune.

"Traditional" camp made of hand-made carpets enclose this fantastic area, and our guide and chef made a lovely tagine.

Some drumming, some sand-boarding, then the fenic foxes came out at night!

Fantastic sleep - even if we were wakened at 6 to ensure we didn't miss the sun rise!

Back to the hotel for breakfast and a swim!

Room Tip: A bit difficult to find - keep you eyes peeled for signs, then the road really is a dust track!
