“the awseome place like from fairy tale!”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

I stayed at Kasbah Erg Chebbi 2 days with my friends and i can recommend that to everybody who want to spend amazing time close to the nature and real dessert culture!

its the best quality for reasonable price! We stayed in many hotels and hostals during our trip and Kasbah Erg Chebbi was the best one! Every room has clean, very nice bathroom and toilet, shower with hot water (thats not so popular in morroco as you think ;)), its pretty nice decorated with traditional elements and has a very comfortable beds.
The hotel is perfectly situated just next to the big dune of Erg Chebbi, just in the middle, you cannot ask for more! You are in the middle of the dessert and the place is sooo clean, the staff is working so hard to manage it.
The power and electricity is provided every afternoon for you to be able to charge your mobile, have a hot showe etc and later when in the night its getting off you can feel the real nature, enjoy natural dessert atmosphere! Its the best place to relax and have fun at the same time, far away from hustle and bustle of big cities!

The staff is very nice and helpful, they will make you feel like at home! Any question or problem you have they will help to resolve that with a smile. What is more they speak about 7 languages so without problems you can comunicate with them. You will feel like a part of the family.
Not only that they have to offer, every night they will let you to enjoy the berber music played alive by drummers (that awesome staff people), you can join them dancing and clapping your hands! Everybody from little kid to elderly people gonna have fun!

They offer you traditional, tasty and fresh food that is changing all the time! You will try all types of dishes that are must eat in Morocco like tajin, couscous, pastella etc etc etc, you will never get tired of that.

I do not think you gonna get bored of enjoying dessert, small cities like Risani and swimming pool that is in the hotel in your spare time but if so as a activities hotel organise camel trips with sleeping in tents in the middle of dunes where you can enjoy the best sky with stars view that you have ever seen in your life, listening to drummers or 4x4 jeep tours in the dessert, thats amazing experience you will never forget and much much more. Your guide guy gonna provide you all informations that you need, gonna show you all the most important places like villages, nomad families etc, you can even enjoy having a tea with nomad people and get to know more about culture and customs.

I can guarantee you that you will never forget Erg Chebbi experience!

Right now as i was there with friends i want to take all my family there to let them feel the dessert spirit! and i hope to visit Kasbah Erg Chebbi many more times!

If you have any question do not hesitate to write me an email.

Regards

Room Tip: rooms we had were brilliant so i suppose all of them are like that :)

I was in Morrocco several time, but first time that I feel real sahara end berber spirit was when I stay in Kasbah Erg Chebbi. If you want hotel with five ( 5 ) or more stars, then do not go in Kasbah Erg Chebbi, but if you want live with domestics, simple people, have many fun and many good musics, and warm atmospher, Kasbah Erg Chebbi can bee your chois. People working in Kasbah will organised for you sahara safari with jeep ( if you want crazy drive, you will get it ), lunch in gnaua (this is somethnik special ! ) village with gnaua music, discovering rocks mountains near Erg Chebbi, tea in tent with berbers family end many other thinks. Prices for night ( with half pension ) are not expensive, ovners are very friendly people ( to young man ) who will done many thinks for feel you good. We have in Erg Chebbi our rent a car, one day with our car we have a big problem, but ovners of Kasbah, take our car in other city and return with apsolutly corect car. They did not want take money from us for what they done. I love Kasbah Erg Chebbi end i will return in this litlle berber paradise.

I stayed with 3 friends in Kasbah Erg Chebbi in December. We were 3 girls looking for a break for a gap year in London. It was definitely the most 'out of this world' and different experience of our time away and one we will cherish forever. We made a long trip from Marrakech by bus and we had read some reviews online of this hotel that it was good value for money and that the location was very close to the dunes (they didnt tell us it was sat right amongst the biggest dunes - wow!) so we asked in the frontier town in Rissani and the hotel driver came to pick us up and drive us in the 4x4 to the hotel. As we saw the hotel and the dunes in front of us we got more and more excited as it was like a castle set in the sand.
We had heard that there was camel trekking that could be organised by the hotel and we decided to do one night on the camels travelling towards an oasis in the dunes and one night in the hotel itself. (We ended up staying 5 that's how much fun and relaxation we had). So... back to the camel trek. We took 3 camels at dusk of our first night with a guide leading the camels across the peaks of the sand dunes. Our guide walked for hours with the camels but staying cheery the whole while and telling us stories of his family's history in the area and the legacy of the Berber tribes around Erg Chebbi. When we arrived at the oasis we actually saw the moon rise (coming from a big city we didn't even know it moved!!) and a sea of stars across the sky. Our guide cooked us a hearty traditional meal of Tagine made with chicken and lots of vegetables and we sat in our warm woven blankets and looked to the sky. We eventually fell asleep in our traditional nomad tents warm and content and wondering what the next day would hold!!!
We had fallen so in love with the tranquility and alien beauty of life amongst the sand dunes that we decided when we got back to the hotel that we all wanted to stay more nights! That night we listened to drumming and music and ate delicious cous cous. The cous cous was a real treat and after dinner we went to the terrace to look at the grand panorama in front and all around us. That night we took a room for us 3 girls and we were very satisfied with our warm and cosy accommodation. Considering we were in the middle of the desert we were very pleasantly surprised to find a nice hot shower (as this is not everywhere in Morocco) and nice warm sheets and blankets to snuggle in (as the desert in winter at night can be quite cold), The next morning we woke up to our new favourite dish - BERBER OMELETTE! For breakfast we had eggs slow cooked in an earthenware tagine bowl with tomato and spices and it was sumptuous - unlike anything we had ever tasted. We washed this down with sweet mint tea and we were ready to start our day with vigour! Knowing that we had a few days to play around with we were not too worried about trying to fit everything in and we had a walk around the dunes and read our books in the peace of the desert - even managing to get slight tans in the middle of winter!!! When we felt nice and relaxed we asked Hassan the kind manager what he could suggest for us in the area. Despite the desert looking isolated and deserted it is actually full of culture and activity. Hassan suggested we travel to the historical village of Khamlia to hear the desert muscians play and to eat a traditional lunch as prepared by them, He also organised a car for us and off we went. Again (we are obsessed by good food) we ate yummy cuisine - this time chicken kebabs and fresh salads, olives and fruit. We watched the musicians perform and made ourselves look silly trying to dance with scarves around our waists (the musician boys were better than us at moving their hips - embarrassing).
We returned back to our hotel to more food - this time another different kind of Tagine with raisins and then creme brule for dessert! We had managed to find a few bottles of beer in a supermarket desert outpost so we had a few beers on the terrace and congratulated ourselves on finding our own paradise!
What more can I say without making everyone want to pack their bags and leave for Kasbah Erg Chebbi right now!? It really is an amazing place and we werent the only people to be having a great time there. A French family with 3 kids under about 10 were staying in the hotel and the kid were having so much fun playing in the dunes and making sand tobogans down the slopes. It seemed like a great safe place to relax and restore after the frenetic pace of Marrakech. The family said they had been coming to the hotel for 4 years because it was such a great experience for the kids and that they could 'roam free' without concern. The kids also liked all the music and playing the djembe drums that were in the reception hall(again they were more musical than we were)..
I noticed the last review was not very complimentary and I can only speak from my own experience and that of my two girlfriends' (we are all under 26) that we felt safe and secure and that we were treated more than professionally as well as being treated to a great time. The facilities in the hotel were beyond our expectation. The generator works in the hotel to provide electricity every afternoon/evening and this was more than adequate, This hotel is in the middle of the desert so why would you want power lines being rigged up to the hotel to spoil the environment? I noticed that Hassan and his employees were very aware of their impact on the natural environment and I think that this is commendable. Also, why would you want to be hooked up to a television all day when you can experience the drama of the Sahara desert? I cannot say enough great things about this hotel and I would be happy to provide further reference if required.
I read that Erg Chebbi hotel is like a film set - no its not true - its better than that. A dream perhaps?
For any further information on our Moroccan trip or if you need any tips then please do not hesitate to email me on candyjodes86@gmail.com. We spent a month travelling around as 3 girls and it was a memorable adventure. I will post more on Essaouira and Marrakech shortly.

Room Tip: You are surrounded by a panorama of the desert's highest dunes - any room is a good choice. We h...

Kasbah erg chebbi has by far the Best view of the sand dunes of all the Hotels near Merzouga. I booked 2 days and ended up staying for 5 because the food was so delicious, the Staff was attentive, the Water was Hot and the Room was clean. I loved the authentic moroccan decoration throughout the hotel and there are numerous Common areas and a gorgeous terrace to spend Time drinking tea and relaxing. The owners were very helpful in explaining the various camel and Jeep excursions that are possible to Book through the hotel. I would recommend Kasbah erg chebbi to any traveler looking for an authentic Experience in the Sahara.

Of the Kasbah Erg Chebbi I will always think as my second home. Moha, Hasan and their staff was wery friendly and made my holiday a dream. The Kasbah is infront of the Sahara dunes that cals you to feel the sunrise, or sunset, to sleep in the sand, meditate, or even just walk ... The whole Saharan decor and sensation is beautifull, the food is wonderfull and natural, tasty and spicy...I really did enjoy every moment and will be back soon. Unforgetable moments for me will be the evenings in Sahara with drums and traditional music, walks thrue the sand on dromedars, 4x4 adventures in the desert... Love you guys stay the way you are

Room Tip: all the rooms are in etno stile, nice and worm in the winter, cool in the sommer

We really enjoyed stay at Kasbah Erg Chebbi. Staff was very friendly and helpful, trying to provide the best service all the time. Kasbah has a very good location, first sand dune is 20m from the door. It is possible to use the swimming pool during the hot days, water was little bit cold but unbelievable clean. Room was clean too. Camel trip to the desert was an unforgettable experience. Staff speaks many languages, english, french, german, spanish. It was unbelievable that the owner and manager of the hotel could speak to almost all of the guests with their language. Price was very friendly. Best value for money I have ever seen in the Morocco. Definitely worth of visiting for all of types of travellers.
