Kasbah Erg Chebbi
Ranked #15 of 23 Hotels in Merzouga
Reviewed October 7, 2011

I have visited the desert many times and stayed at other places, but the Kasbah Erg Chebbi is my favourite. Firstly it has the BEST location, right at the foot of the big dune. Secondly, it has beautiful Saharan decor, the food is great, and the staff go out of their way to make sure your stay is special. Really, their wish is your command. They work really hard and at night, the drums come out for a desert party. You won't want to leave. They have just had a pool put in, which makes the heat of the day more bearable. Sleep inside or out (the stars are great, so sleep at least one night outside), and be sure to take an overnight camel ride into the Sahara - this will be the highlight of your trip....staying at the Erg Chebbi mud castle!

Room Tip: Sleep inside or out - they will make up beds for you on the roof if you want to be under the stars!

If you want a great view of the dessert, an amazing camel ride through the desert, and have a wonderful experience sleeping in the dessert, go to this spot! The staff were friendly and entertaining. They made the experience that much better. The facility was nice, clean, and comfortable. It was by far my favorite place in Morocco. I recommend packing some snacks/drinks since you are in the middle of no where!

The best place in Morocco is the desert and in the desert you find service with kindness and humbleness in Kasbah Erg Chebbi. The owner, Mohammed, is a hard working and very friendly person, speaking many languages, assuring you to stay there comfortably.
The staff is capable of doing everything, from riding camels, to preparing meals, from playing and singing, to preparing your tents in the desert and even if they are wet and tired under the unexpected rain, they don't take back their smile.
The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, but don't forget your window left open, a sudden sand storm is very common!!
The reception area is also very nice, you can have your dinner under the candle light, with the company of the incence smells, leaning your backs to the soft cushions.
I will definitely go there again, one night was never enough...

My husband and I originally booked for 3 nights but extended our stay. This was my second time in Morocco and by far this place has captivated me the most. The setting is totally mesmerizing sitting on the patio over looking the dunes is truly magical.
Out of all the places in Morocco where I stayed this was the only place which offered entertainment, and it was so passionate and moving.
The food is excellent and changes every night, very fresh and tasty.
Our room was lovely, and personnally I feel that you couldnt get better than here.
mohammed the owner is an amazing host,he likes to have a chat with you and wants to know if you are happy with everything.
Next year i will be returning, and already I am looking forward to it.
I have travelled alot, but this place is special, and really if you go to morocco you should see the dunes, as they are the real soul of morocco ,and the kasbah erg chebbiis perfect for your adventure.

The location is great but that's all I can say for this place. Its sleazy and dirty. They only have power and hot water at night which is fine but it would have been nice to know before hand. We asked for towels and got one hand towel. Didn't get bath towels until the next day. The room was a good size but the blankets were filthy. An ashtray had been upended on mine and just brushed off. Sand comes in if theres any wind. Its quiet once the boys finish partying. The buffet style dinner is very much first in best dressed. Breakfast consists of stale bread, old olives and whatever else is laying around.
If you're a single woman think twice about going here - unless youre looking for a holiday "romance".

Room Tip: sleazy, dirty, boys club

I travelled to Morocco with Real Morocco Tours and stayed at Erg Chebbi Kasbah. It was perfect, there are no false pretences, there are clean and comfortable rooms, hot showers, delicious traditional food, good music and helpful friendly local staff friendly who could get me anything I wanted. The kasbah is a huge amazing building just like a sand castle in the desert. It is right on the dunes of Erg Chebbi and you can walk in the dunes to see the sunrise. There are plenty of interesting things to see and do in the area and you could easily send a week or more at the kasbah exploring the desert region.

Got in at dark - greeted by owner - sat outside for a lovely dinner and it was all downhill from there. Got sick from the food - as did another traveller we met the next day. Walked into the dunes at night and dawn - fantastic but a turbaned salesman found us! Left for an overnight dune trip - the trip by camel was great but being sick was not so great. The tents organized by the hotel were dirty, dirty, dirty. Just close your eyes. No organized area for "waste" - just go anywhere.
Didn't want to even venture into the dirty shower at the hotel so went to a local hammam instead (also dirty but quite an adventure in itself)
