We stayed here as part of an Intrepid tour, for two nights. We were told this was the best hotel on the tour. And, this was probably true. We were dropped at the gate and thought 'oh no...' but behind the gate was a beautiful garden and even more beautiful hotel.
Hotel Darechchaouen is situated about 5 minutes easy walk away of the medina on a hill below the Spanish Mosque. The rooms are beautifully and colourfully decorated. Stain glass windows, a small fridge, air conditioning, plush rugs and TVs in all rooms.
We ate here one night... highly recommended if you don't want the 'usual' fare down in the medina - there are some different tagines, soups and desserts on the menu. Another group bought their own wine and drank it at dinner here as they are not licenced to sell alcohol.
The pool and sunny terrace level looked inviting if only it was warmer. A good place to base yourself for hikes in the Rif Mountains behind.
Uncertain of the price, but we joked that a lot of our tour cost went into this hotel :P
