“Quite tasteless food, no choice of dessert”
Reviewed October 15, 2012 via mobile

Having been rather disappointed by both Aladdin and Hassan, we were hoping for better from Hicham. The view of the floodlit Kasbah is very nice from the terrace. The table was a bit dirty, the waiter was smiling and friendly. We are vegetarian and both had the warm Moroccan salad to start with, as they had no aubergine left. It tasted more like ratatouille with no seasoning at all. I had the vegetable couscous which was average, but my husband had the tagine which was tasteless and full of oil. It only had potatoes, carrots and green beans. Very poor. It was a set menu, but all they offered for desert was yoghurt, which we don't like. Still cost 200 including a bottle of water - more expensive than its neighbours. Then they showed us out through the shop and tried to get us to look around. Altogether pretty poor. We are rather underwhelmed by the culinary delights of Chefchaouen, having had such great food in Fes, Marrakech and Essaouira.

“Excellent food, reasonable prices”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

We stayed two nights in Chefchouen and on the second night we tried out this restaurant after our hotel recommended it. We had starters and a main course for dinner. Ambience on the terrace was great, with a view overlooking the square. The meal was really the highlight of the evening and having travelled in Morocco for the last two weeks, the food here was really one of the best we had. The vegetable soup was tasty, while the mixed meat brochette consisting of beef and chicken was one of the best we've tasted in Morocco. The beef was especially tender and juicy, and had we known it to be so good, we would have just gone for just the beef brochette instead of the mixed meat. Prices were very reasonable at Dh 230 for two soups, brochettes, and bottled water. This resturant is very under-rated both in terms of price and food quality, and we'd definitely return for another tasty meal.

“Excellent restaurant, soon to be #1 in Chefchaouen”
Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

After several okay meals near the tourist area, places highly recommended by trip advisor, we finally took our hotel's advice and went to Chez (or Casa) Hicham. Wow! The food is excellent and the staff has been superb. We showed the host our book on Moroccan food and asked if any of the Moroccan specialty dishes were available, even though they were not on the menu... So began our delightful journey of really tasty and healthy Moroccan food! (I confess I also enjoyed chicken kabobs and fries one night as well). After several days of couscous and Moroccan vegetables or harira at other restaurants, it was so nice to see all kinds of foods before us. There are delicious versions of Hummus he prepared for as well as savory bean dishes. All at astoundingly decent prices.

Best place in Chaouen, hands down.

“Good service, good view, good food.”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

The first place in Morocco where we were actually given our own teapot instead of just a small cup of tea.
The view was beautiful, the restaurant clean, cosy and quiet. The amount of food was more than adequate (they serve three-course meals for 80dh) and apart from the fries the taste was very good. We especially liked the service. The staff was nice, helpful and well-spoken, something you don't see everywhere in Morocco.
