We stopped at Casa Pepe last Sunday on our way back to Rabat from Chefchaouen. Having tried Casa Garcia during our last visit to Asilah, we opted for Casa Pepe this time to compare. At 3pm the restaurant was packed, mostly with foreigners. Service was relatively hard to come by, likely because of its popularity. It was a bit more expensive than the nearby fish house, Casa Garcia, at 750 dirhams (75 euros) for 4 adults.
The food had mixed reviews at our table: none of us were impressed by the salade mixte or paella, which was too heavy on the tomato sauce. The whole sardines and sautéed calamari dishes didn't appear to be properly cooked. However the pickled sardines were tasty, as was the sole. Everyone was pleased with the tortilla des patatas (omelette espagnole). The battered calamari and battered octopus were cold. For dessert, the flan was a hit, and the creme brulée was a miss as it was a bit overcooked.
